Wu Zhangkong is severe, disciplined, and direct. Despite his cold manner, Wu Zhangkong is deeply protective of his students. Class Five Homeroom Teacher

Wu Zhangkong first meets Tang Wulin outside East Sea Spirit Master Academy after Tang Wulin misses both the opening ceremony and first class. He takes personal responsibility for allowing him inside, interrogates him in his apartment, and is shocked by Tang Wulin's thousand-year spirit ring. 13 After hearing Tang Wulin's limited explanation, he permits him to remain at the academy with a strict warning not to repeat the absence. 14

He builds Class Five through combat drills, harsh physical conditioning, and special training for Tang Wulin and Xie Xie. He appoints Tang Wulin class monitor, Xie Xie vice-monitor, and sets the Class Promotion Tournament goal of reaching Grade 1, Class 1. 16 19 He also accepts Gu Yue as a late enrollee after she defeats Xie Xie in a supervised spar. 20 21

Class Promotion Tournament

Wu Zhangkong shifts Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue's special training toward speed and battlefield synergy before the tournament. 37 After Tang Wulin defeats the Dark Phantom Demon Eagle fusion with Golden Dragon Claw and Eight Extremities Collapse, Wu Zhangkong catches him as he collapses and takes him to the infirmary. 46

Spirit Ascension Platform Rescue

When a ten-thousand-year soul beast appears in a beginner-level Spirit Ascension Platform, Wu Zhangkong disregards the lack of an official pass and enters because he considers the students' safety his responsibility. 54 He rescues Tang Wulin and Gu Yue, confronts the saber-toothed tiger, and helps resolve the conflict after Gu Yue returns its cubs. 55 56 57

As the platform's failures escalate, Wu Zhangkong fights a Three-Eyed Spirit Monkey, escapes a Darkgolden Terrorclaw Bear with Sky Ice, and battles the Golden-Eyed Black Dragon while Tang Wulin's group attempts evacuation. 58 60 He uses successive ice skills, hidden weapons, and defensive Soul Tools to delay the dragon, but the emergency escape device fails. 60 61

After the dragon regains hundred-thousand-year cultivation and appears in human form, Wu Zhangkong recognizes that he cannot win. He chooses to follow the being—later identified as the Black Empress—while keeping Tang Wulin, Xie Xie, and Gu Yue under his protection. 62 63
