Background / History
Tang Chen raised the Clear Sky Sect from a family inheritance into the foremost sect of the Upper Three Sects. He reached level 99 through his own cultivation rather than divine lineage support, earning unmatched prestige within the sect and the title of “Invincible on Land.” 33 84
In his pursuit of godhood, Tang Chen entered Slaughter City to undertake the Asura God’s Nine Trials. During the critical eighth trial, a flaw in his heart and the Rakshasa God’s evil thoughts allowed the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King to parasitize him. He became the King of Slaughter and lost recognition of his family and former allies. 33 40
Tang Xiao, Bo Saixi, and the Clear Sky Sect elders entered Slaughter City to retrieve him. While the sect protected Bo Saixi, she used the Sea God Trident’s Sea God’s Light to force the parasite from Tang Chen’s body, incapacitating Slaughter City’s darkness-corrupted inhabitants in the process. 40 41
After recovering, Tang Chen was remorseful over abandoning the Clear Sky Sect and worried about what had happened during his absence. His return immediately destabilized the continent’s political balance, as Spirit Hall and other powers recognized the return of the man who had previously defeated Qian Daoliu. 42 43 44
Personality
Tang Chen is intensely devoted to the Clear Sky Sect and views its survival, prestige, and future dominance as his personal responsibility. Even while mentally clouded after his rescue, his first concern was whether the sect remained intact; he described himself as an irresponsible sect master for leaving its members to carry the burden alone. 42
His strength and status have made him accustomed to imposing his will directly. After learning of Tang San’s predicted future and Spirit Hall’s divine potential, he pursued measures to secure god-level power for the Tang family, including seizing Bibi Dong and seeking the Rakshasa God’s trial. 46 49 84
Despite his cultivation talent, Tang Chen is portrayed as socially oblivious, having failed to understand Bo Saixi’s feelings until after she rescued him. 37 41
Abilities & Skills
Level 99 Limit Douluo
Tang Chen is a level 99 assault-type Peerless Douluo, regarded as the strongest cultivator in Clear Sky Sect history and one of the three great Limit Douluos of his era. 33 84 87
- Reached level 99 through personal cultivation, unlike Qian Daoliu and Bo Saixi, whose advancement is attributed to divine support. 33 84
- Previously defeated Qian Daoliu, the level 99 Angel Douluo, and was considered to slightly surpass him at equal rank. 42 87
- His existence alone compels the Heaven Dou Empire to treat the Clear Sky Sect as a power beyond imperial control. 87
- His power greatly exceeds ordinary Titled Douluo; level 95–96 Bone and Sword Douluo were unable to withstand his attacks directly. 47 48
Clear Sky Hammer
Tang Chen possesses the Clear Sky Hammer, the Clear Sky Sect’s top-tier Tool Martial Soul and the world’s number one weapon Martial Soul. 41
- The King of Slaughter retained access to Tang Chen’s Clear Sky Hammer while controlling his body. 41
- Tang Chen’s mastery of the hammer and extensive combat experience allowed him to overwhelm Sword Douluo Chen Xin in direct combat. 47
- His combat style is associated with overwhelming frontal force, reinforcing his reputation as invincible on land. 47 48
Soul Power Suppression
Tang Chen can release Soul Power on a scale sufficient to suppress an entire major sect. 47
- During his assault on the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, the pressure of his released Soul Power killed numerous Soul Emperor- and Soul Sage-level members. 47
- Several Spirit Douluo were required to form a defensive Soul Power barrier to protect weaker sect members. 47
Ring Explosion
Tang Chen possesses a Ring Explosion technique powerful enough that Spirit Hall considered it a major threat in his past battle with Qian Daoliu. 42
- Golden Crocodile Douluo argued that Qian Daoliu could have avoided its danger by exploiting his aerial mobility rather than confronting Tang Chen head-on. 42
Asura God’s Nine Trials
Tang Chen once undertook the Asura God’s divine inheritance trials in pursuit of godhood. 33 84
- He reached the eighth trial before being corrupted and parasitized in Slaughter City. 33
- Having possessed divine power during the trial, he understands the overwhelming gap between a Limit Douluo and a true god-level combatant. 84
- His failed trial remains the source of his transformation into the King of Slaughter. 33 41
Equipment / Items
- Clear Sky Token — A token representing Tang Chen’s authority within the Clear Sky Sect. The Elder Council treats seeing it as equivalent to seeing Tang Chen himself, and its bearer can convey his will with authority exceeding that of the sect master. 84
Relationships
- Bo Saixi — His beloved and rescuer. She waited for him, entered Slaughter City to save him, and used the Sea God Trident to free him from the Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King. 33 37 41
- Tang Xiao — Clear Sky Sect relative who sought Bo Saixi’s aid and helped organize Tang Chen’s rescue from Slaughter City. 33 36 40
- Clear Sky Sect Elder Council — Treat Tang Chen as an “ancestor + war god + supreme authority,” following his authority above that of the current sect master. 42 84
- Second Elder — His nephew and a particularly reverent member of the Elder Council, who addresses Tang Chen as “Uncle.” 84
- Tang San — Tang Chen’s future great-grandson. Tang Chen learns that Tang San is destined to become the Sea God’s successor and views this future as a path toward Tang family dominance. 46
- Qian Daoliu — Long-standing rival and fellow level 99 Limit Douluo. Tang Chen previously defeated him, creating Spirit Hall’s enduring fear of Tang Chen’s return. 42 87
- Blood Red Nine-Headed Bat King — The parasite that exploited Tang Chen’s failed eighth divine trial, controlled his body, and made him the King of Slaughter. 33 41
- Bibi Dong — Tang Chen forcibly took her from the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect to obtain information on the Rakshasa God’s trial and strengthen the Clear Sky Sect’s future bloodline. 46 47 49
Major Actions Following Recovery
- Return of the Peerless Douluo — Tang Chen’s rescue restored the Clear Sky Sect’s greatest deterrent, prompting alarm across Spirit Hall, the Upper Three Sects, and the Heaven Dou Empire. 42 43 44
- Seizure of Bibi Dong — He led Clear Sky Sect elders in an open assault on the Seven Treasure Glazed Tile Sect, injured Sword Douluo and Bone Douluo, and forced Ning Fengzhi to surrender Bibi Dong. 47 48
- Preparation for divine conflict — Tang Chen recognizes that even a Limit Douluo cannot defeat a god-level opponent. He therefore presses the Clear Sky Sect to prepare a god-level powerhouse before Spirit Hall’s divine candidates mature. 84
