Background & History

Baili Du was formerly the Emotion God King and a Child of the Plane. Following the calamities of the Space-Time Turbulence and Samsara Hurricane, he abandoned the names Huo Yuhao, Dai Yuhao, and Tang Wu, choosing the name Baili Du instead. His first priority was to strengthen the Huo Yuhao of this era—whom he regards as another version of himself—so that the boy could escape the fate arranged by Tang San. 8 96

He returned to an earlier era with his soul-spirit companions and intervened directly in Huo Yuhao's childhood. Baili Du used his own essence blood and Dragon God Marrow to help produce Huo Yuhao's god-tier martial souls, then gave the Deep Blue Glazed Dragon its name and instructed the child to conceal it as a trump card. 1 2

His long-term objective is retaliation against Tang San and the Tang Family. He seeks not merely to defeat Tang San, but to dismantle Tang San's influence, expose his actions in the God Realm, and prevent the younger Huo Yuhao from being manipulated through Tang Wutong. 8 14 226

Appearance

Baili Du commonly appears as a handsome young man with blue-white hair and a tall, slender build. 17 19

  • His forehead can manifest the golden Eye of Eternity. 17
  • He wields the Staff of the Undead Scourge, which can transform into a massive scythe. 314
  • His divine presence can be concealed so completely that even powerful soul beasts struggle to perceive an aura from him. 15

Personality

Baili Du is patient and gentle when guiding Huo Yuhao. Rather than immediately pursuing spirit rings and combat power, he emphasizes self-control, moral judgment, and cultivating the heart alongside cultivation. 4 15

His compassion is highly selective. He cares deeply for those he considers family, including Huo Yuhao, Electrolux, his soul spirits, and people he believes have been wronged by Tang San. He is also capable of guilt and sincere concern, particularly regarding the Goddess of Life's former fate. 8 9 184

Against Tang San, the Tang Family, and their supporters, Baili Du is calculating, vindictive, and ruthless. He favors long-term schemes, psychological pressure, and turning an enemy's own resources or secrets against them rather than settling for a simple victory. 17 18 227 228

Abilities & Skills

Divine Cultivation and Divine Sense

Baili Du retains extraordinary divine sense despite the injuries that reduced his cultivation after the cosmic disasters. His divine sense exceeds that of ordinary God Kings in both quality and quantity. 14 318

  • Survived the Space-Time Turbulence and Samsara Hurricane, though their residual power continues to burden his body and Soul Cores. 19 87
  • Uses his martial souls to help bear the space-time power lodged within his dantian. 87
  • Was capable of effortlessly stripping Ah Yin, another Second-Level God, of power stolen from the Douluo Plane. 17
  • Continues to seek recovery toward his former Half-Step Supreme God King peak. 88

God of Spirit Ice

Baili Du's God of Spirit Ice is a humanoid god-tier martial soul formed through the fusion and sublimation of his Spirit Eye and Ice Jade Empress Scorpion martial souls. It resembles Spirit Ice Douluo Huo Yuhao. 67

  • Produces gray-blue dragon shadows that dissolved Tang San's Boundless Sea Ripples. 67
  • Channels intense cold and deathly energy through his staff to erode the Sea God Domain. 67
  • Represents a self-developed martial-soul evolution suited to combat in the God Realm. 67

Necromancy

As the Holy Necromancer, Baili Du commands undead power and possesses extensive knowledge of souls, resurrection, and the Undead Plane. 67 226

  • Uses the Staff of the Undead Scourge to manipulate souls and summon necromantic power. 96 185
  • Revived Qian Renxue and Bibi Dong in the Undead Plane after their deaths ten thousand years earlier. 226 227
  • Can transform the Staff of the Undead Scourge into a scythe combining the laws of ice, snow, and undead. 314
  • Entered the Undead Plane to avoid Tang San's pursuit when his third Soul Core became unstable. 19

Eye of Eternity

The Eye of Eternity is Baili Du's super-divine tool. It specializes in perception, seals, and spiritual observation rather than direct destructive power. 96

  • Sees through illusions and can inspect a target's Spiritual Sea. 96
  • Requires Baili Du's divine sense to exceed the target's, or for the target to be weakened. 96
  • Places a heavy burden on his divine sense and is not used casually. 96
  • Its Eternal Three-Eye God-Destroying Seal disperses divine power rather than simply sealing it. 17
  • Helped expose the fragmented state of Tang Wutong's soul before the God Realm's leadership. 185

Illusion and Psychological Warfare

Baili Du uses illusions and emotional manipulation to force opponents into disadvantageous states before finishing the fight. 318

  • Forced Ji Dong and Lie Yan to relive their most painful memories. 318
  • Drew out their fusion technique, Live and Die Together, until it severely depleted them. 318
  • Eliminated the pair after weakening them through their own emotional vulnerabilities. 318

He refuses to let Huo Yuhao's future be controlled by Tang San. To that end, he places a mental seal preventing contact with Tang Wutong, arranges for Lan Xuanyu's rebirth into the era, and works with Electrolux to prepare Huo Yuhao for eventual godhood. 8 9

Retaliation Against the Tang Family

Baili Du begins openly collecting “interest” from Tang San's supporters by stripping Ah Yin of the divine power and life force she took from Douluo Planet. He binds her under Electrolux's contract afterward. 17

God Realm Alliance and Conflict

Upon entering the God Realm, Baili Du rejects Tang San's recruitment attempt and instead accepts the God of Destruction's hospitality. He aligns himself with the expansion faction while discreetly warning the God of Destruction that Tang San is dangerous and duplicitous. 37 38

Tang San later attempts to capture him, but Baili Du counters with the God of Spirit Ice martial soul and injures Tang San badly enough to force his retreat. 67

Resurrection and the Golden Dragon King Scheme

Baili Du revives Qian Renxue and Bibi Dong to create new leverage against Tang San. He supplies the Life God Sword, offers them a mutually beneficial agreement, and brings them into his plans involving the Golden Dragon King. 226 227

Notable Quotes

“To cultivate the path, you must first cultivate the heart.” 4

Tang San, this time we are both players on the board; let us see who will have the last laugh...” 96

Trivia

  • Baili Du chose his name after reflecting on “a thousand miles of the River of Oblivion” and “a hundred miles of crossing.” 96
  • He deliberately programmed the Douluo World's evaluation system to flatter Huo Yuhao less than his actual abilities warranted, hoping to keep the boy motivated. 44
  • Despite his hostility toward Tang San, he initially avoids directly killing Tang San because he considers a quick death insufficient repayment for past betrayals. 226 324
