Background

Dong Yi'an is the son of Western Legion Commander Dong Zi'an. Because his mother serves in the North Sea Legion, he attended North Sea Academy rather than growing up alongside his older brother in the Western Legion. His father’s wolf-like upbringing prioritized strength, talent, and results, causing Dong Yi'an to receive less attention and fewer resources than Dong Lintian, who inherited their father’s Green-Faced Wolf martial soul. 1 31 37

At North Sea Academy, Dong Yi'an was outgoing, eager to establish himself as the class leader, and resentful of Shen Nanxun’s popularity. He repeatedly mocked Shen Nanxun over his lack of a martial soul and low soul power, only to be reminded that his own level-five innate soul power was also near the withdrawal line. 1

His Sky Wolf Spear was a mutation combining his parents’ martial souls rather than an inheritance of Dong Zi'an’s beast martial soul. Dong Yi'an regarded this as a disadvantage, especially in comparison to Dong Lintian. 9 31

Appearance

Dong Yi'an was initially described as an ordinary-looking boy. By the time he reunites with Shen Nanxun at the beach, his face has become noticeably sun-darkened. 1 31

Personality

Dong Yi'an began as arrogant, envious, and excessively concerned with status. He tried to use Shen Nanxun’s apparent weakness to elevate himself within their class, and initially refused to accept setbacks gracefully. 1 8 9

Repeated defeats—especially at Na'er’s hands—gradually changed him. Though still blunt and competitive, he became loyal to his friends and more honest about his insecurity over his family. He openly admits that he cannot yet defeat Dong Lintian, but insists that his loss is to time and his current self rather than to his brother permanently. 11 31 37

He is also an enthusiastic admirer of Shen Nanxun, repeatedly watching battle recordings and praising Shen Nanxun’s appearance and strength instead of studying the combat itself. 31

North Sea Academy Rivalry

Dong Yi'an leads the class’s mockery of Shen Nanxun, targeting his level-two soul power and apparently absent martial soul. After Shen Nanxun awakens the Six-Winged Angel manifestation, Dong Yi'an is shocked by the difference in their strength. 1 8

He then tries to regain face by challenging Na'er, only to be defeated in three moves and pinned beneath her Silver Dragon Spear through soul-power suppression. 9

Na'er's Follower

Unable to accept his defeat, Dong Yi'an repeatedly challenges Na'er. Her daily beatings eventually force him to submit, after which he becomes her loyal subordinate and addresses her as “Boss.” 11

Sun Moon Academy Assessment

Dong Yi'an struggles under the Purple Imperial Heaven-Destroying Dragon’s pressure, but Shen Nanxun helps him continue the first assessment. He and Ye Xi later clear the subsequent trials through the foundation built at North Sea Academy. 36 37

For the final combat assessment, he deliberately challenges Dong Lintian twice despite the latter’s level-43 cultivation and four thousand-year soul rings. Both attempts end in defeat, but Dong Yi'an refuses to surrender his ambition to surpass his brother. 37

Reconciliation with Dong Lintian

After Shen Nanxun defeats Dong Lintian, the brothers share a tense dinner with their companions. Dong Lintian later apologizes to Dong Yi'an for their previous conflict. 38 39

Early Graduation and Central Legion Youth Camp

Dong Yi'an and Ye Xi graduate early from Sun Moon Imperial Soul Master Academy after deciding that its intermediate courses no longer provide sufficient growth. They pass the selection for the Central Legion Youth Camp and visit Shen Nanxun and Na'er to say goodbye before reporting for military training. 55

Before leaving, Dong Yi'an joins Na'er and Ye Xi in a spar against Shen Nanxun. Even with Sky Wolf Possession and his fourth soul skill, he is defeated by Shen Nanxun’s Nirvana Divine Thunder. 55 56
