Background

Yu Xiaogang was born into the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan as the youngest son of its patriarch, Yu Yuanzhen, and the nephew of Yu Luomian. His martial soul mutated into Luo Sanpao, while his innate soul power was only half a level. Despite this, Yu Yuanzhen provided substantial clan resources that raised him to level 29. Yu Luomian viewed this support as wasteful and routinely belittled him. 86 110

He later studied at Spirit Hall and became involved with Bibi Dong. Following conflict with the previous pontiff, Qian Xunji, Yu Xiaogang left Spirit Hall; Bibi Dong subsequently gave him an Elder Token, allowing him to receive elevated treatment while traveling the continent. 86

Known as the “Grandmaster,” Yu Xiaogang proposed the Ten Core Competitive Theories of Martial Souls. At Notting Academy, however, he did not teach classes or lectures and was widely regarded by work-study students as living off the academy’s hospitality. 4 7

At Notting Academy, Yu Xiaogang attempted to approach Lu Chen after witnessing the gatehouse incident, intending to study the unusually strong child. Lu Chen refused to engage with him. Yu Xiaogang then met Tang San and accepted him as his disciple. 4 5

Yu Xiaogang is a tall, thin middle-aged man with a rigid demeanor.

He places overwhelming faith in Tang San, treating his disciple’s growth as the means to prove his own theories, restore his reputation, and eventually regain recognition from the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. Even after Tang San’s blood-based cultivation becomes suspicious, Yu Xiaogang refuses to believe that his disciple could harm an academy teacher. 101 111 162

Repeated defeats and losses intensify his obsession with revenge against Lu Chen. He refuses Flender’s advice to avoid confrontation, continues to pursue retaliation after Tang San’s death, and seeks Bibi Dong’s help despite Liu Erlong’s objections. 101 192

After leaving Notting Academy, Yu Xiaogang arrives at Shrek Academy and is stunned by Flender’s injuries and Lu Chen’s rise. He encourages Tang San to pursue power carefully through his Blue Silver Grass martial soul while preserving the Clear Sky Hammer for a future nine-ring configuration. 82 83 84

He accompanies Tang San’s group into the Star Dou Forest, supports Tang San’s absorption of a 2,000-year Man Faced Demon Spider ring, and treats the result as proof of his theories. 84 86

Conflict with Lu Chen

Lu Chen overwhelms Yu Xiaogang in the Star Dou Forest, pinning the level 29 Grandmaster to the ground with soul power pressure while extracting Tang San’s Eight Spider Lances. 86 87

Yu Xiaogang responds by insisting that Lu Chen has exhausted his potential through premature Twin Martial Soul cultivation and by staking his hopes entirely on Tang San surpassing him. 83 101

At the All-Continent Advanced Spirit Master Elite Tournament, Yu Xiaogang joins Flender and Liu Erlong against Huyan Zhen through their fusion skill. Later, Lu Chen destroys the Golden Sacred Dragon and strips Tang San’s blood-red soul power, exposing the resentful spirits created by Tang San’s killings. 189 190

Expulsion and Spirit Hall Service

After public humiliation connected to Bibi Dong, Yu Xiaogang refuses Yu Luomian’s order to return to the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan. He is permanently expelled from the clan. 110 111

Following Tang San’s death and Shrek Academy’s closure, Yu Xiaogang seeks Bibi Dong at Spirit Hall. Bibi Dong appoints him Head Elder, granting him authority second only to herself. 192 194

Destruction of the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan

Bibi Dong sends Spirit Hall forces to annihilate the Blue Lightning Tyrant Dragon Clan, believing its destruction will avenge Yu Xiaogang’s past humiliation. Yu Xiaogang instead attacks her in fury upon learning that his father, second uncle, and other relatives were killed. 197

He flees back to Thunder Canyon and finds the clan reduced to scorched ruins, with the mutilated corpses of Yu Luomian and Yu Yuanzhen among the dead. 198
