Story Role / Major Arcs

Ambush of Orochimaru's Reinforcements

Sand Ninja attempt to prevent Orochimaru from reaching the Land of Wind front by surrounding his reinforcements in the Land of Rivers. Their numerical advantage includes twelve jonin, but Orochimaru defeats the nine jonin assigned to stop him, while Sen Chisato and the Konoha escorts eliminate many of the remaining attackers. 7 10

Rear-Line Infiltration Campaign

Sunagakure sends numerous squads behind Konoha's defensive line. These units lay explosive traps, hide underground, use sensory techniques to evade patrols, and attempt to retreat through the Land of Rain after attacks. 14 19

Konoha cannot determine the infiltrators' purpose through interrogation because their brains are curse-sealed. Nara Shikaku and Orochimaru ultimately suspect that Rasa may be sacrificing troops to manufacture a justification for further escalation or internal political maneuvering. 20 21

Conflict with Team Minato

A Sand Ninja squad of five, led by a jonin, becomes the trial encounter arranged for Team Minato. The group initially overwhelms Kakashi through numbers, Wind Release, explosives, and prolonged sword combat. Rin and Obito intervene before Sen Chisato defeats the jonin, while Minato pursues the remaining Sand Ninja. 25 30

Rasa's Surprise Attack

Under Rasa's command, Sand Ninja cross a canyon on a Gold Sand bridge to launch a surprise attack against Konoha. Sen Chisato's unit anticipates the operation and counters with Water, Fire, Wind, and Earth Release, inflicting substantial casualties among Sunagakure's elite troops. 41 44

When Sen Chisato traps many Sand Ninja in a newly created canyon, Rasa releases Bunpuku's One-Tail Shukaku. The resulting chaos harms Sand forces as well as Konoha's position, leaving Rasa responsible for severe losses. 44 45 50
