Aftermath

Filippo Eugene was no ordinary man. He possessed a measure of strength himself.

Though he was far inferior to his adopted son, Thesel, commander of the Kingdom's First Legion, he had been considered a formidable fighter in his youth, possessing Transcendent-level strength.

It should be said that in Doro, a nation of Warriors, no man who lived to adulthood was ordinary.

However, Filippo was already advanced in years. Coupled with the many hidden injuries he had sustained in his youth, time had worn away and eroded most of his abilities, leaving little behind.

If he faced the guards sent by the Second Prince alone, his prospects would be grim.

Even as a priest of Scar Cathedral, Ivan was unlikely to spare him... because he had another identity: Thesel's adoptive father.

On that basis alone, Ivan would certainly use his unauthorized attack on High Priest Artesla as grounds to put Filippo to death.

Gilan intended to save the old priest's life.

He led Filippo out of Klein Arena through a relatively concealed passage along the base of the walls. At the same time, he released Vivi from the ring and had her cast a spell on them, muddling the minds of the few witnesses.

When they paused briefly in an alleyway halfway there, Priest Filippo solemnly expressed his gratitude to Gilan.

"Thank you for helping me, Gilan."

He showed no signs of worry or fear. Instead, he seemed quite at peace.

Filippo knew full well what consequences awaited him for assassinating High Priest Artesla, yet he had done it anyway.

Because he valued Thesel, his adopted son, more than his own life.

"If possible, please get me out of Klein. After that, I'll find somewhere to hide on my own... As for Thesel, tell him not to worry about me."
