Background / History

Uchiha Madara's departure from Konoha left lingering resentment within the clan. By Konoha Year 6, disagreement over compulsory enrollment in the newly founded Ninja Academy split the Uchiha between Uchiha Chirori's moderate faction and Uchiha Bin's radicals. Chirori argued that, having chosen to remain in Konoha, the clan should support village policy; Bin viewed the academy as a Senju attempt to weaken Uchiha independence. 11

The dispute escalated at Naka Shrine when Bin led thirty clansmen in an attempted defection against Chirori's fifty supporters. Chirori activated her Mangekyou Sharingan and defeated the defectors, including those using Izanagi, forcing them to accept that their path was wrong. Five Uchiha died in the conflict, while Bin's younger sister, Uchiha Yan, escaped and was reported as a rogue ninja. 12 13

Hashirama allowed the Uchiha to handle Yan's defection as an internal clan matter. He also appointed Chirori as Principal of the Ninja Academy, where thirty-three Uchiha children were prepared to enroll. 14 Over the following year, the clan came to accept that the academy was not a Senju conspiracy; its children received effective instruction, and the earlier bloodshed came to be viewed as meaningless.
