Background and History

Itachi was already renowned within the Uchiha Clan as a prodigy, having awakened his Sharingan at eight. He served in the ANBU while still young and was deeply protective of his younger brother, Sasuke. When Sasuke reported that Zhou Cheng's arena had awakened his Sharingan and granted miraculous rewards, Itachi immediately became concerned that Sasuke had been deceived or endangered. He and Shisui investigated the arena together. 2 3

Initially skeptical of Zhou Cheng and his blind boxes, Itachi held back during his first attacks because he feared killing an apparently ordinary opponent. His Fire Style attack nevertheless earned him a Fire Release affinity upgrade, while a second Green Blind Box contained a letter showing the future annihilation of the Uchiha Clan, Shisui's death, and his eventual break with Sasuke. The revelation convinced him that Zhou Cheng was genuine and made him regret not attacking at full strength. 4 5

Determined to avert the future shown in the letter, Itachi sought a peaceful resolution to the conflict between the Uchiha Clan and Konoha. He warned Hiruzen Sarutobi that the clan elders were considering a fight to the death, criticized the village leadership's aggressive treatment of the clan, and turned to Zhou Cheng for assistance. 50 51

As the arena continued, Itachi repeatedly used its rewards to strengthen himself. He developed the Mera Mera no Mi's flames, obtained the Mangekyō Sharingan through a Jade Sharingan, and gained Amaterasu and Tsukuyomi. Personality

Itachi is cautious, disciplined, and considerate. His initial restraint against Zhou Cheng came from concern that his attacks might kill a presumed civilian, and he consistently treats Zhou Cheng with formal respect after recognizing his strength. He also values the blind boxes highly, carefully catching and opening them rather than accepting Zhou Cheng's casual handling of rare rewards. 4 15 66

His strongest motivation is protecting Sasuke and preventing the Uchiha Clan's destruction. The future letter fills him with guilt over the suffering Sasuke and Shisui would face, while the clan crisis drives him to pursue negotiation rather than immediate rebellion.
