Background / History
Lei Chen grew up alongside Su Ming in the Wu Mountain Tribe and became one of Su Ming's few close friends. Before Su Ming's second Barbarian Awakening, he hunted a dangerous Sable Deer specifically because Su Ming needed its blood for medicine. Lei Chen had already awakened a Barbarian Body at age seven, unlike Su Ming. 8
By the time Su Ming began cultivating in secret, Lei Chen was a pillar of the tribe's hunting party. He promised to protect Su Ming from anyone who bullied him, regardless of Su Ming's apparent lack of a Barbarian Body. 10
Su Ming later entrusted Lei Chen with the secret that he had begun Barbarian Cultivation. Lei Chen accepted the revelation solemnly and envisioned the two of them as the Wu Mountain Tribe's future “eagles.” 26
Appearance
Lei Chen is a sturdy, youthful Barbarian man whose physical build reflects his cultivation and experience in the hunting party. 10 20
- Has a slightly youthful face despite his robust build. 20
- Possesses notably abundant blood and qi. 20
- Is considered physically comparable to Bei Ling in potential, though Bei Ling is regarded as stronger among their generation. 24
Personality
Lei Chen presents himself as simple, honest, and somewhat foolish, often grinning bashfully or scratching his head. Su Ming, however, recognizes this as a facade: Lei Chen is perceptive and cunning enough to mislead people who underestimate him. 20 26
He is loyal, outspoken, and protective of Su Ming. He repeatedly supports Su Ming against prejudice from Bei Ling and is willing to lend Su Ming his carefully saved Stone Coins, though he persistently demands repayment. 10 26 47
Lei Chen is also talkative and playful. During the journey to the Tribal Market, he bombards Su Ming with questions and deliberately exploits Su Ming's request for silence with a literal interpretation of “being quiet.” 26
Abilities & Skills
Blood Condensation Cultivation
Lei Chen possesses a Barbarian Body and cultivates through the Blood Condensation Realm.
- He had condensed twenty-three blood lines and was described as having reached the fourth layer of Blood Condensation. 10
- He later stated that he felt close to breaking through to the fourth layer, while Grandpa praised the purity of his Barbarian Blood and believed he could potentially reach Grandpa's level with enough time. 20
- His blood energy was strong enough to make Su Ming compare him favorably to the third-layer Black Mountain Tribe warrior Su Ming had killed. 20
Close-Quarters Combat
Lei Chen fights aggressively and without hesitation when the Wu Mountain Tribe is threatened.
- During the Moon Wing attack, he continued fighting while several Moon Wings clung to him. 32
- He bit a Moon Wing after it latched onto him, declaring that if it drank his blood, he would drink its blood in return. 32
- He was unable to handle dozens of attacking Moon Wings alone and was saved by Bei Ling's ice-infused arrow. 32
Hunting and Wilderness Travel
As a member of the hunting party, Lei Chen can track prey and travel rapidly through mountain forests.
- He pursued a Sable Deer to obtain blood for Su Ming's medicine, despite the danger involved. 8
- He guided Su Ming to the Tribal Market and accompanied him on the return journey through the wilderness. 26 29
Deception and Bartering
Lei Chen uses an innocent demeanor to conceal a more mischievous and calculating side.
