Background / History

Centuries earlier, the Wu Mountain Tribe commanded the surrounding eight directions and could have become a medium-sized tribe. Its decline began after the deaths of its two Dust Opening Realm ancestors; the tribe later split, leaving three branches to continue its heritage. The Fengzhen Tribe was once its vassal, but has since become the dominant tribe of the region. 7 48

In the present era, the tribe is a small settlement without a Dust Opening Realm expert. Its foremost protector, Mo Sang—known to the tribe as Grandpa—remains at the ninth level of Blood Condensation and bears the Black Python Mark. 7 8

The Black Mountain Tribe and Black Dragon Tribe share roots with Wu Mountain. The Black Mountain branch has become a longstanding enemy, with recurring, bloody clashes between the tribes’ hunting parties. 13 19

Settlement and Society

• The settlement is enclosed by giant wooden walls and a tree-built gate raised by ropes; armed guards watch its entrance. 7
• A central bonfire serves as a communal gathering place for dancing, celebration, and discussion. 7
• Every clansman performs work necessary to the tribe’s survival, including hunting, guarding, and gathering medicinal herbs. 10
• The tribe maintains a guarded herb-storage house for its medicinal supplies. 24
• Its hunting party maintains concealed traps in the surrounding forest, known only imperfectly even to its own members. 19

Barbarian Awakening

The tribe holds a Barbarian Awakening for Lasus—unawakened youths—when they reach sixteen. The ritual begins with the sacrifice of forty-nine wild beasts, whose blood and flesh are used to summon the Wu Mountain Barbarian Statue. 8

Each youth enters the statue and worships within it. Those who succeed gain a Barbarian Body and can begin Barbarian Cultivation; those who fail cannot cultivate by ordinary means. 8 10

The tribe’s statue is a savage half-human, half-beast figure holding a long dragon and an enormous spear. During Su Ming’s Awakening, the statue trembled amid a massive sky vortex, an abnormal event also affecting the statues of nearby tribes. 8 9

Leadership and Notable Members

• Mo Sang (Grandpa) — The tribe’s revered elder and strongest known protector. He possesses the Black Python Mark, leads major rituals and defenses, and personally guides Su Ming. 8 22 47
• Wu Mountain Tribe Chief — A burly leader with an incomplete Barbarian Mark; one of the tribe’s three strongest figures aside from Mo Sang. 7 20
• Shan Hen — Hunting Team Leader, responsible for hunting beyond the settlement and among the tribe’s strongest warriors. 7 20
• Scout Leader — The tribe’s strongest archer, holding a hereditary title that only one person in a tribe may bear. 20
• Su Ming — A youth accepted by the tribe despite his apparent inability to obtain a Barbarian Body during the public Awakening. 8
• Bei Ling, Lei Chen, and Wula — Young Barbarian Warriors selected alongside Su Ming for the Fengzhen pilgrimage and trials. 47

Defenses

• Barbarian Warriors — The tribe’s principal fighting force; they guard the settlement and respond to external threats. 10 30
• Wu Mountain Barbarian Statue — Manifested by Mo Sang during the Moon Wing assault; its dragon swept across the battlefield to defend the settlement. 32
• Sea of fire — During the Blood Moon attack, the tribe used burning stored meat and fire to divert and contain Moon Wings. 31 32
• Hunting traps — The forest around the tribe contains hidden traps capable of killing unfamiliar intruders. 19
• Black Python — Mo Sang can summon a massive black python to transport the tribe’s delegation quickly to Fengzhen. 47 48

Story Role / Major Arcs

Barbarian Awakening

The tribe gathers its Lasus for the Awakening ceremony. Su Ming’s failure to worship the statue confirms his outsider status in the eyes of the ritual, though the clansmen continue to treat him with kindness and pity rather than rejection. 8

The ceremony is interrupted by a supernatural vortex above Wu Mountain and the trembling of the tribe’s Barbarian Statue. 9

Blood Moon and Moon Wing Assault

When the Blood Moon arrives early, Mo Sang orders ordinary clansmen into shelter while the Barbarian Warriors prepare to defend the settlement. 30 31

The tribe sacrifices stored beasts to distract the Moon Wings, but more than a hundred creatures eventually breach the fire barrier. The Chief, Bei Ling, Lei Chen, and Mo Sang join the defense as the tribe struggles to prevent its people from being taken. 32

Fengzhen Pilgrimage

The tribe travels to Fengzhen to pay tribute and participate in the gathering and Great Trials held among the surrounding tribes. Mo Sang frames the journey as a test for Wu Mountain’s younger generation to uphold the tribe’s name. 47

The delegation’s arrival highlights the tribe’s reduced standing: Fengzhen’s mud-stone city and six subordinate outer tribes far surpass Wu Mountain in scale and power. 48

Relationships

• Fengzhen Tribe — Former subordinate that became the regional hegemon; Wu Mountain now pays it homage and tribute. 47 48
