Background / History

Bai Ling was raised in the Black Dragon Tribe by her grandmother, Lesu. Her parents departed long ago for a tribe larger than the Fengzhen Tribe and have not returned. A Barbarian Art was passed to Bai Ling through instructions left by her mother. 36 37 48

As a child, she witnessed Moon Wings seize one of her playmates and drag the child into Wu Mountain. The memory leaves her terrified when the Blood Moon arrives early and an immense swarm of Moon Wings threatens the Black Dragon Tribe. 31

At the Tribal Market, Lei Chen deceives Bai Ling with a purple-dyed fake herb. Angered by the scam, she repeatedly returns to the market hoping to encounter him; Su Ming meets her when he intervenes on Lei Chen's behalf. 27 29

During the Blood Moon disaster, Moon Wings capture Bai Ling and imprison her within a red tree trunk in their nesting cavern. Su Ming recognizes her and chooses to rescue her despite the danger. 34 35

Appearance

Bai Ling is a tall, beautiful young woman with an untamed presence that contrasts with her clear, innocent-looking eyes. During the Moon Wing attack, she is described in white clothing. 24 27 34

Bai Ling is clever, spirited, and willing to confront those who wrong her, as shown by her persistence in seeking out Lei Chen after he cheats her. Her upbringing in the Black Dragon Tribe has left her relatively inexperienced with dangerous mountain travel, yet she continues onward despite fear and physical pain after escaping the Moon Wings. 27 35 36

Her experience in the Moon Wing cavern exposes a vulnerable side. She initially falls into despair while imprisoned, then instinctively trusts Su Ming after he rescues her. As they travel together, her earlier craftiness and playful humor gradually return. 34 35 36

Blood Moon Capture and Rescue

The early Blood Moon revives Bai Ling’s childhood terror of Moon Wings. She is captured, imprisoned in the Moon Wings’ red tree trunk, and loses hope of survival before Su Ming breaks her free. 31 34 35

Journey Back to the Black Dragon Tribe

Su Ming leads Bai Ling through the Moon Wing caverns using fire to kill their pursuers, then escorts her across the mountains. They spend a snowy night sharing their histories, and Bai Ling tells him about her absent parents and grandmother. 35 36

Bai Ling returns safely to the Black Dragon Tribe after brushing snow from Su Ming’s clothes and thanking him. Her rescue later becomes the reason the Black Dragon Tribe avoids seriously harming Su Ming when he approaches their territory. 37 48

Fengzhen Gathering

Bai Ling arrives with the Black Dragon Tribe at Mud Stone City. She and Su Ming exchange smiles and glances after meeting again, signaling that their connection remains intact. 50
