When Konan brings Chen Xiaoxi to the base rather than Sasori, Pain initially questions the newcomer’s identity and whether he truly has the strength to replace the famed puppeteer 5. He permits Kakuzu to test Chen, then formally recognizes Chen’s strength after Kakuzu retreats and grants him the Jade Akatsuki ring 6 8.
