Background

Chuan Yu was born to Uchiha Kagami and Hyuga Natsu. The Hyuga clan rejected both the relationship and Chuan Yu’s Hyuga heritage, leaving him without recognition or proper care. Because only his left eye initially awakened as a Sharingan, the Hyuga regarded him as an anomaly and subjected him to neglect and bullying. Kagami eventually gave him the Uchiha name through Shisui, who promised to personally bring him home someday. 1

Shisui treated Chuan Yu as a younger brother and became his strongest source of support. After Kagami’s death, Shisui awakened the Mangekyo Sharingan and attempted to prevent the Uchiha coup through Kotoamatsukami. Danzō ambushed him for his eyes, ultimately driving Shisui to suicide; before dying, Shisui entrusted both Chuan Yu and his remaining Mangekyo to Itachi. 1

Itachi brought Chuan Yu to the Uchiha compound after Shisui’s death. Fugaku publicly recognized Chuan Yu as an Uchiha and adopted him into his family, where Mikoto, Itachi, and Sasuke accepted him as a relative. Chuan Yu resolved to grow strong enough to prevent the Uchiha clan’s planned massacre. 2

After awakening the Mangekyo, Chuan Yu sought Orochimaru’s help and agreed to investigate Ryuchi Cave. There, he defeated Ichikishimahime by draining her senjutsu chakra, trained under the White Snake Sage, and completed the cave’s Sage Mode training with Karin at his side. 12 19 22

Appearance

Chuan Yu has long hair that can hang over his face. His most defining feature is his mismatched dōjutsu: a Sharingan in his left eye and a Byakugan in his right eye. 1 2

Personality

Chuan Yu is fiercely protective of those he considers family. He shields Sasuke during training, intervenes to save Izumi from Itachi, and repeatedly acts to prevent threats against the Uchiha or Konoha from reaching his adopted brother. 8 26 32

His early experiences with the Hyuga clan and Shisui’s death leave him distrustful of Konoha’s leadership, particularly Danzō. He can be ruthless toward enemies, killing Cloud and Mist shinobi without hesitation when he believes they endanger Hinata, the Uchiha, or his own goals. 6 9 25

Although he initially seeks Uchiha dominance as protection against persecution, Chuan Yu eventually recognizes that seizing Konoha through violence would perpetuate the same cycle of hatred that harmed his clan. This conviction brings him into direct conflict with Fugaku and leads to his expulsion from the Uchiha. 32 35

Uchiha Adoption and the Coup Crisis

After Shisui’s death, Chuan Yu joins the Uchiha household and rapidly develops his dōjutsu, swordsmanship, and chakra mastery. He views Danzō and Konoha’s leadership as the chief causes of the Uchiha’s persecution and prepares to stop the planned clan annihilation. 2 5 8

Ryuchi Cave Training

Chuan Yu accepts Orochimaru’s Ryuchi Cave mission, survives the cave’s genjutsu and senjutsu trials, defeats Ichikishimahime, and gains Sage Mode. His original Mangekyo is exhausted in the process, prompting his later transplantation of Shisui’s eye. 14 19 22 23

Danzō’s Defeat and the Uchiha’s Return

Armed with the Eternal Mangekyo and Susanoo, Chuan Yu confronts Danzō, destroys his repeated Izanagi resurrections, and ultimately leads the Uchiha in killing him. The Uchiha subsequently regain their rights within Konoha and take control of Root. 23 25 26

Exile from the Uchiha

Following Hiruzen’s death, Chuan Yu opposes Fugaku’s plan to take Konoha by force. Fugaku expels him from the clan, and Chuan Yu leaves Konoha with Karin after Jiraiya encourages him to move forward. 34 35 36
