Background

Tobirama initially serves as a teacher and guide to his youngest brother, Senju Kyogawa. He instructs Kyogawa in chakra circulation and the Clone Technique, then later designs training intended to counter Sharingan genjutsu after Kyogawa's defeat by Uchiha ninja. 3 41

His early research identifies why Kyogawa could not absorb chakra: constant Healing Jutsu use had accelerated his cellular metabolism, causing chakra-bearing cells to be metabolized before they could sustain chakra pathways. After Kyogawa's condition improves, Tobirama takes charge of his Water Release training and diagnoses the chakra instability preventing him from walking on water. 41 44

During the Senju–Uchiha conflict, Tobirama is intensely hostile toward the Uchiha. He investigates Hashirama's meetings with Madara at the Naka River and nearly becomes involved in a confrontation between the two clans. 45 47 In a later battle, he is caught in genjutsu long enough for Izuna Uchiha and another Uchiha to wound him severely; he retains the three facial scars he receives as a reminder not to underestimate an enemy. 55 56
