|---|---|---|
| Sharingan (one to three tomoe) | 8 46 47 79 | The clan’s bloodline limit evolves from one to three tomoe. It enhances visual perception and genjutsu; Madara and Izuna awaken one tomoe during the Naka River confrontation, while Tajima and later Izuna demonstrate three-tomoe eyes. |
| Mangekyō Sharingan | 85 86 110 | Madara and Izuna awaken the Mangekyō, gaining substantial increases in perception and unique ocular powers. Susanoo is associated with the stage, though Izuna initially cannot fully master it. |
| Post-replacement ocular evolution | 102 185 186 | The Eternal Mangekyō is described as obtainable through ocular power from a close blood relative. Kyogawa later replaces Madara’s and Izuna’s eyes with identical replacements; both recover fully and their Sharingan evolve. |
Background
The Uchiha are descendants of Indra, the elder son of the Sage of Six Paths. The Senju descend from Indra’s brother Asura, making the rival clans distant relatives despite their long history of war. Black Zetsu later reveals that it had manipulated the conflict between the clans from behind the scenes. 129 140
Before the alliance, the Uchiha and Senju treated one another as mortal enemies. Their territory bordered the Naka River, and the Uchiha’s Fire Style, Lightning Style, genjutsu, and Sharingan made them a central threat to Senju forces. 8 36
The feud intensified after deaths on both sides. At the Naka River, Madara abandoned his shared ideal with Hashirama in favor of his clan, awakening a one-tomoe Sharingan amid the emotional turmoil; Izuna awakened his own Sharingan and challenged Kyogawa to meet him on the battlefield. 47
A series of attacks on Uchiha missions and food convoys—many marked by missing memories and evidence resembling Uchiha Fire Release—helped expose the presence of a hidden instigator. Madara and Izuna ultimately helped persuade the clan to ally with the Senju against their common enemy. 77 110 112 135
Appearance
Uchiha are generally described as having black hair, black eyes, pale skin, and notably attractive features. 8
- Their Sharingan manifests as scarlet eyes with black tomoe. 46 47
- The Mangekyō Sharingan develops an individual patterned design rather than standard tomoe. 85
- Clan members are frequently characterized as refined and cleanliness-conscious. 77
Abilities & Skills
Sharingan
The Sharingan is the Uchiha clan’s bloodline limit. It can evolve from one to three tomoe and is particularly effective for genjutsu and visual analysis. 8
- Allows users to read and counter an opponent’s movements with exceptional accuracy. 79
- Supports the clan’s aptitude for shurikenjutsu and hidden weapons through superior eyesight. 35
- Can be used to transmit memories or force an opponent’s eyes into transformation through ocular jutsu. 101 102
- Awakening is tied to intense emotional stimulation. 47 159
- Prolonged use burdens the eyes; even ordinary Sharingan users may experience discomfort over time. 186
Mangekyō Sharingan
The Mangekyō is an advanced Sharingan form awakened by Madara and Izuna. It grants dramatically increased ocular power and access to techniques beyond the standard Sharingan. 85 86
- Can grant access to Susanoo, a giant chakra construct used for offense and protection. 85 110
- Improves perception further, making enemies’ movements markedly clearer. 110
- Repeated use risks deterioration and eventual blindness. 102
- The Eternal Mangekyō Sharingan is said to resolve blindness by combining ocular power from a close blood relative’s Mangekyō. 102
Fire and Lightning Release
The Uchiha are skilled in Fire Release and Lightning Release, with Fire Style serving as a major component of their battlefield tactics. 8 36
- Common Fire Style techniques include Phoenix Sage Fire Technique, Fire Dragon Bullet Technique, and Phoenix Sage Flower Nail Crimson. 36
- Uchiha forces use long-range elemental attacks, genjutsu, and hidden weapons rather than relying solely on close-quarters combat. 36
Eye-Security Measures
Uchiha ninja may destroy their own eyes to prevent enemies from acquiring the Sharingan. 35
Organization
Uchiha Tajima remains the clan head during the early Alliance period, while Madara increasingly assumes authority over clan affairs and matures into the role of young clan head. 134 161
Izuna is trusted with negotiations and internal clan work. Alongside Tobirama, he represents the Alliance in talks with the Sarutobi Clan. 152
Within the Alliance, the Uchiha take responsibility for patrol squads, viewing the assignment as a way to demonstrate their value and strength. Their growing workload and reputation for aloofness later create staffing and integration problems. 179 180
Relationships
- Senju Clan — Historical rival clan and battlefield enemy; the two clans form an alliance after recognizing Black Zetsu’s interference and the danger of continued conflict. 8 129 135
- Black Zetsu — Hidden manipulator responsible for worsening Senju–Uchiha hostility and destabilizing Uchiha supplies and missions. 110 129
- Sarutobi Clan — The first outside ninja clan to proactively approach the Senju–Uchiha Alliance for cooperation. 152
- Kaguya Clan — Uchiha forces clash with Kaguya ninja during the incident in which Izuna is injured and awakens the Mangekyō Sharingan. 85 86
Notable Events
Naka River Confrontation
The Uchiha and Senju face each other at the Naka River after escalating losses. Madara’s choice to prioritize his clan over Hashirama’s ideal leads to his Sharingan awakening, while Izuna awakens his own eyes and declares Kyogawa an enemy. 47
The “Stolen Uchiha Child” Dispute
Kyogawa’s sudden Mangekyō Sharingan causes the Uchiha to accuse the Senju of stealing an Uchiha child. Tajima orders an investigation, while Tobirama’s blood test confirms that Kyogawa is of Senju blood. 87 93
Formation of the Alliance
After Black Zetsu’s actions threaten both clans, Madara and Izuna persuade the Uchiha to accept an alliance with the Senju. The agreement faces internal resistance but is ultimately accepted as a united response to the hidden enemy. 112 135
Sharingan Treatment
Kyogawa works to prevent the Sharingan’s long-term damage rather than relying indefinitely on eye transplants. He eventually performs successful replacement procedures for Madara and Izuna, restoring their eyes and advancing their Sharingan. 143 185 186
Trivia
- The Uchiha Shrine contains a hidden stone tablet whose contents change when viewed with the Mangekyō Sharingan; Izuna can recognize its characters but initially cannot understand their meaning. 159
- Uchiha clan members increasingly treat Kyogawa as one of their own because of his Mangekyō Sharingan, despite confirmation of his Senju bloodline. 110 161
- The clan’s willingness to indulge those they consider important is presented as a defining trait of Uchiha affection. 162
