Harry, Ron, and Neville clutched Unfogging the Future, opened the trapdoor, descended from the Divination classroom, and left the North Tower by way of the spiral staircase.
"I never thought your homework was just made up out of thin air..." After hearing Harry and Ron explain their "study methods," Neville's round face was full of astonishment.
Trelawney had kept the three of them behind because Harry and Ron's assignments had been excellent, and she hoped the two could help Neville find the knack for Divination as well.
Neville looked up at the trapdoor overhead and, only after making sure Trelawney had not poked her head down through it, lowered his voice. "But why... didn't Professor Trelawney notice?"
"That's just her style..." Ron shrugged. "As long as it's something unlucky, she likes seeing it."
"She's kind of like Snape..." Harry concluded. "Snape likes seeing us actually have bad luck. Trelawney likes seeing the bad luck we make up..."
"So, like we said earlier, you first look up the celestial events for next month, then make up some related misfortune. Like Saturn going retrograde... so the wind will trip me..."
"It's kind of fun to make things up once in a while, but after doing it for too long..." Ron sighed. "The main problem is that I can't understand it. Otherwise, I'd apply to switch to Arithmancy."
"Remember how Hermione told us a couple of days ago... because everyone did so well in class, Professor Viktor didn't assign any homework? I'm so jealous!"
"Ow!" Just as he voiced his envy, his foot suddenly slipped, and he lost his balance, toppling backward.
Luckily, Harry and Neville reached out at the same time. Each grabbed one of Ron's sleeves and hauled him up, keeping him from falling to the ground.
As Ron panted heavily,
