Although Joseph had warned the Poles long ago to beware of Prussia, William II had disguised himself far too well, making it difficult for the Poles to become suspicious.

For example, the Polish Intelligence Department had recently noticed Russia's military movements. Thus, when France warned them that Russia would invade, they immediately began actively preparing for war.

But there had been no troop or logistical movements whatsoever on Prussia's side. It did not look like they were preparing for war at all.

Of course, at this moment, Joseph was likely the only person in the world who knew that William II had no intention of launching a large-scale war. He intended to wait until Russia had drawn away all of Poland's forces, then launch a sneak attack from behind.

Historically, Prussia had indeed not carried out much large-scale mobilization. They simply gathered several tens of thousands of eastern garrison troops and, almost like an armed sightseeing tour, marched all the way to within fifty kilometers west of Warsaw.

Had they not wanted to leave Poland with one last breath as a buffer against Russia, Prussia could have wiped Poland off the map outright.
