Two groups of Black soldiers burst from the dense forests on either side of Nassau, shouting as they charged toward the French Army attacking the city.

At the same time, bursts of cannon fire rang out from Nassau, immediately slowing the French Infantry's advance.

Gardner stared in shock through his Telescope at the Black soldiers loading the Cannons and said incredulously:

"How... how do they have Cannons?"

Gallisonière issued a string of redeployment orders to his Staff Officers. When he turned back, his face was livid.

"More importantly, they actually know how to fire them!"

His acting was truly superb, leaving the English with no trace of suspicion. In truth, artillery officers under his command had secretly come to the Bahamas several months earlier and taught the Black soldiers, hand in hand, how to use Cannons.

Now, there was little hope for the Bahamas artillerymen's accuracy, but they could at least operate the Cannons proficiently. The spectacle alone was immensely intimidating.

Those Black soldiers had hardly any Flintlock Guns. Most of them wielded Sugar Cane machetes and the like.

He cursed under his breath and took back everything he had said earlier about the French Army's formidable combat strength. But then he remembered that even General Brand had been defeated by those Negroes, and he felt somewhat relieved.
