After the "One Melon," Prussia had forcibly seized every city surrounding this port, turning it into a Polish enclave.

Hohen was in such a hurry to attack Danzig not because he thought it would be difficult to take and wanted to make preparations early. Quite the opposite—Prussia now unanimously believed that Danzig would fall into their hands as easily as picking something up, so long as they sent any army at all.

Hohen's target was the Polish merchants' highly valuable goods in the harbor, as well as the Polish merchant ships.

News of the war would soon reach Danzig. He had to get there at top speed if he wanted to catch as many "big fish" as possible.

So he even left behind the cumbersome artillery battalion, taking only the Royal Brandenburg Legion and more than a dozen cavalry squadrons—a total of over thirteen thousand men—as they launched a Forced March northward.
