Background / History

Ahab is a transmigrator who awakened in the body of Ahab Gul at Graz Port. The original body’s owner had hidden from aptitude testing and drunk himself unconscious; Ahab regarded him with contempt and chose to exploit the opportunity to pursue supernatural power instead. His aptitude test revealed 6 points of mental power and second-class meditation talent, leaving him at a disadvantage from the start. He also discovered a Chinese-language Future Diary, apparently written by his future self, which warned him of dangers ahead. 1

During the voyage to Mensis Academy, Ahab used a friendly, self-deprecating façade to distribute poisoned alcohol among the other apprentices. The resulting deaths reduced his competition, while his later conflict with Bill secured his position as group leader. To defeat Bill, Ahab deliberately bit open his tongue, poisoned Bill with his blood, stitched the wound himself, and ultimately incapacitated Bill permanently. 2 5 6

At the Academy, Ahab pursued materials for research and clashed with Vivian after she substituted a counterfeit Three-Headed Hound fang for the genuine article. He defeated and imprisoned her, then deprived her of sleep for three days and four nights until she revealed the fang’s location. 9 10 11 12 13

Merlin recruited Ahab into the Demon Hunter Wizard Project to hunt Void Cultists, beginning with Vivian. Although Ahab recognized that the role and bloodline transplantation could limit his long-term potential, he accepted the arrangement to obtain Void Authority and information about the Future Diary and the Void Ancient God. 18 19 20

Ahab transplanted the Withered Wood Guardian bloodline, gaining increased physical resilience and plant-controlling abilities. He later survived Vivian’s lightning by playing dead, then forced her to transfer the Void Authority See Through to him. 21 23 24

On Sistan Island, Ahab used deception to manipulate escaped Bloodkin and eliminate Bill. By rendering Bill’s Fire Tornado incorporeal with See Through, he caused Bill to fall into the sea and claimed Bill’s sin as Faith Power. 29 30 31 33

Appearance

Ahab has dark red hair and is notably small and thin compared with physically imposing apprentices such as Bill. 1 5

  • Dark red hair, which he tidies after awakening in his new body. 1
  • Silver-white left pupil when activating Void-related vision or Authority. 26
  • His bloodline transplant did not leave the visible mutation normally expected from such procedures. 21

Personality

Ahab is calculating, shameless, and intensely survival-driven. He regards aptitude, resources, and social rules as obstacles to be exploited rather than limits to accept. He routinely presents himself as weak, polite, frightened, or harmless when doing so creates an advantage. 2 5 14

He is willing to harm himself when he judges the result worthwhile, but does not seek pain for its own sake. He bit and stitched his own tongue to poison Bill, endured days without sleep while interrogating Vivian, and underwent bloodline transplantation for greater power. 5 12 21

Ahab is also highly vigilant after recognizing that his previous life ended because his ruthlessness was not matched by sufficient caution. He continually reassesses threats, including Merlin, the Void Ancient God, Tupa, and the reliability of the Future Diary. 10 19 26 48

Abilities & Skills

Void Authority: See Through

A Void Authority obtained from Vivian. It can predict and nullify witchcraft when Ahab has reserved an appropriate use and correctly identifies the relevant spell or phenomenon. 18 31

  • Rendered Bill’s Fire Tornado incorporeal, causing it to pass through Ahab’s ship harmlessly. 33
  • Countered fireballs, wind blades, and ice spikes during Wilson’s ambush. 43
  • Requires Faith Power; one point of Faith Power supports one use. 30 33
  • Has limited daily uses and depends on Ahab’s prior predictions being correct. 31 43
  • Can be blocked or weakened by the law-altering power of a formal wizard. 47

Spirit Vision and Judgment

Ahab can use Void-related vision to perceive sin points and judge targets, converting their sin into Faith Power upon death. 28 30

  • Identified Bill as carrying 48 points of sin. 29 33
  • Received 4 Faith Power after killing a larger Bloodkin and 48 more after Bill’s death, reaching 51 points. 30 33
  • Used Spirit Vision to assess the relative sin of Lechi, Eleanor, and Daliyuan. 28

Ice Sorcery

Ahab’s elemental affinities include ice, water, and dark, though all were initially low. 4

  • Creates and launches icicles for ranged attacks. 10 32
  • Used ice spells in his duel with Vivian. 10 11
  • Developed the 0.4-ring sorcery Thunderbolt Ice, his strongest offensive spell. 42 43
  • Used Thunderbolt Ice to kill two ambushers and finish Wilson. 43

Withered Wood Guardian Bloodline

A bloodline transplant that enhanced Ahab’s constitution and granted plant-related abilities. 21 23

  • Increased his strength and physical resilience. 21
  • Allowed him to survive Vivian’s lightning by holding his breath and feigning death. 23
  • Grants Plant Manipulation, enabling nearby vegetation to restrain opponents. 43
  • Bloodline transplantation ordinarily limits a wizard’s future ceiling to that of the transplanted race. 19

Deception and Improvisation

Ahab’s primary combat strength before his later power gains was his ability to plan around stronger opponents.

  • Used self-inflicted tongue wounds and poisoned blood to disable Bill. 5 6
  • Exploited Vivian’s warning badge by using sleep deprivation rather than direct physical torture. 12
  • Manipulated Bloodkin cubs into helping him seize control of a ship. 30 31
  • Prepared layered contingencies against Lola, including paralyzing paste, Corpse Dissolving Powder, See Through, and a Blue Steel Brick. 38 39 40

Equipment / Weapons / Items

  • Future Diary — A Chinese-language diary apparently written by Ahab’s future self; its connection to Ancient God Language makes Ahab question its true purpose. 1 19
  • Rescue Badge — Summons Merlin when crushed; Ahab used it after completing his demon hunt. 26
  • Corpse Dissolving Powder — Research product made using Vampire King’s Nail; dissolves flesh and organs after entering a wound, and has a numbing contact effect. 38 40
  • Blue Steel Brick — A dense, highly durable improvised weapon used to incapacitate Lola. 38 39
  • Wizard tool nail — Taken from Lola; inflicts a mental attack by exposing painful memories to both user and target. 40 43
  • Apollo Flintlock pistol — A second-hand mechanical firearm purchased before the Divine Kingdom Trial. 49

Relationships

  • Merlin — Second-Ring wizard who recruits Ahab as Mensis Academy’s first Demon Hunter Wizard; grants him three questions but also deliberately steers him toward limiting choices. 18 19 36
  • Vivian — Initially stole Ahab’s Three-Headed Hound fang; later became his target as a Void Cultist and was forced to transfer See Through Authority to him. 9 11 24
  • Bill — Former rival for group leadership and persistent enemy. Ahab permanently injured him on the voyage, later killed him on Sistan Island, and gained 48 Faith Power from judging him. 6 33
  • Tolia — Ahab’s fearful neighbor and fellow apprentice. He views her superior aptitude as a future threat, but also uses her as a potential helper. 4 13 14
  • Instructor Gray — Ahab’s instructor, initially dismissive of his aptitude but later involved in Merlin’s Demon Hunter project. Ahab becomes suspicious of Gray’s connection to Ancient Gods. 1 17 35 36
  • Lola — President of the Newcomer Mutual Aid Society and Ahab’s creditor. Ahab killed her with a prepared combination of paralyzing paste, Corpse Dissolving Powder, and physical force. 21 37 39 40
  • Tupa — First-Ring official wizard and Lola’s backer. Ahab considers him a future source of information on Ancient Gods and a major threat. 48 50
  • Qi Qi — Bloodkin cub whom Ahab deceived during the Sistan Island mission. She later escaped through her own planning, earning Ahab’s recognition as a potential threat. 30 35
  • Eleanor Incalos — Mission teammate who assists Ahab by providing a Blue Steel Brick; later becomes increasingly curious about his abilities. 38 34
