Background

Dugu Yan is Dugu Bo’s only granddaughter and inheritor of the Jade Phosphor Serpent lineage. Its poison arts caused a hereditary backlash: her father died from the curse, while Yan endured bone-piercing cold and poison pain at night without telling her grandfather so that he would not worry. 42

Dugu Bo brings her to Biyou Village at age eleven to seek Lin Ya’s treatment. Initially proud of her talent, she doubts that the younger Lin Ya can heal her and challenges him; his effortless victory reveals their fourteen-rank gap and teaches her humility. 42 43

After accepting Dugu Bo’s decision to entrust the family’s future to her, Yan undergoes a dangerous Self-Cultivation Furnace procedure. Lin Ya uses the Snow-White Swan Kiss and a Demon Skull soul bone to evolve her martial soul, creating the Jade Phosphor Serpent Emperor and its inner core.
