The Nurse's Love Affair (Please Bookmark and Recommend)
Lin Wen lay in West Shanghai City First Hospital for a week.
He had actually woken up on the third day, but unable to face the loss of his perfect Reincarnation Cultivation opening, he played dead in the hospital bed for another four days.
Fortunately, three young nurses took meticulous care of him around the clock. He received full-body massages every day, supposedly to prevent muscle atrophy and loss of function. So the days were not too hard to bear.
What troubled Lin Wen slightly was that they made far too many little moves, often touching him all over while giggling and whispering.
"Wow, this feels so good. I'll never get tired of touching it, no matter how many times!"
"Look at these abs—soft, tough, and springy. They're so much better than those stiff, dead muscles people train at the gym."
"These exaggerated pectorals... his chest is unexpectedly broad. Leaning against it must feel incredibly safe."
"These thighs are strong and well-shaped, with power held within—fragrant, bouncy, and delicious. Even I, a girl, am jealous."
"Wow, I touched the inside of his thigh..."
"You little brat, are you looking to die?!"
"You're the most shameless one here!"
Only when the head nurse came on rounds did they behave themselves a little, though not for long.
In Lin Wen's eyes, this was actually a kind of trial. During cultivation, one would face all manner of temptations. If one failed to hold firm, one's Dao Heart would be damaged; in serious cases, Heart Demons could arise. During breakthroughs, illusions would bloom in profusion, and every great desire and temptation buried deep in one's heart would surge in like a tide. A failed breakthrough from distraction was a small matter; having one's foundation utterly destroyed would be disastrous.
So getting some training in advance was not a bad thing. In any case, he was focused on charging headlong into causes of death and researching spells.
And he really did find a valuable cause of death.
Dying for Love, [Become one who cannot untangle the bonds of love in the mortal world; love sows seeds in mortal dust, fate plants seeds beneath the moon, love remains in white snow, dreams remain with the one left behind] Comprehension +9, Opportunity +3, Fortune +1, Charm +3, obtain [Root of Love]. If you betray one bound to you by fate, your heart will shatter and spirit will collapse, and you will fall to demonic corruption.
This was the first time Lin Wen had seen a cause of death with a single bonus exceeding 3. According to information he had obtained while researching another spell, cultivation aptitude had three elements: first, bone structure; second, spiritual sense; third, comprehension.
Bone structure governed life, spiritual sense governed the soul, and comprehension governed great wisdom.
These were the most important foundational aptitudes.
Opportunity and Fortune were special attributes. Opportunity determined the process, while Fortune determined the upper limit.
To climb high in the cultivation world, Fortune was essential. To walk steadily and swiftly, Opportunity was essential.
If one had no Fortune yet still wanted to climb upward, the end would be death and dispersal, wealth scattered and treasures lost—in other words, what Lin Wen often called a treasure-delivering True Person and wealth-scattering boy.
In the cultivation world, if one had no Fortune yet wanted to survive, one could only drift through life in mediocrity, bow one's head, humble oneself, and submit beneath others. For Lin Wen, whose goal was to dominate the cultivation world and sweep away the immortals filling the heavens, that was utterly unacceptable.
Therefore, Fortune came first, Opportunity second, and aptitude third.
Other than those five, everything else was a secondary aptitude attribute—Charm, temperament, spiritual sensitivity, and the like. It was not that they were useless, only that they were not particularly important.
Seen this way, Dying for Love had terrifyingly high Comprehension. Its only flaw was that its Fortune was a little too low.
That was also its greatest defect. Thus, Lin Wen could only reluctantly keep it as a backup option. Unless he found a high-Fortune cause of death that could be achieved alongside it, it still could not shake the positions of Star of Salvation and Duty-Bound Person.
Additionally, Lin Wen found uses for certain spells and verified something.
Among the two special spells he had discovered earlier that had no realm requirements were [Vast Azure Heavens] and [Ask the Heavens].
[Vast Azure Heavens] could not be used. The reason was simple: this world had no heavenly secrets, so nature could not fall into chaos.
As for [Ask the Heavens], he had simply used it wrong. Just as its name implied, one had to ask a question first. The cost of the spell was then determined by the difficulty of the question: at minimum, 10% of his Primordial Spirit; at maximum, an unlimited amount of Good Karma.
The information about aptitudes from before was the answer he had received using [Ask the Heavens]. That information was not in his memories, and it had wasted so much of his time charging headlong.
The information in his memories should only include matters related to the system, not every cultivation-related question.
Yet if he used [Ask the Heavens] to ask questions about the system, every answer he received was [None].
The implications revealed by that were quite interesting.
Even more interestingly, [Ask the Heavens] could answer questions about this world.
Lin Wen revealed a cold, noble, wicked, wildly arrogant sneer.
"This question can only be answered once I become the Dao Ancestor."
There was another spell similar to it: [Immortal's Guide].
Their only difference was that [Ask the Heavens] only answered matters that had objectively existed. [Immortal's Guide], on the other hand, answered subjective questions—for example, what had to be done to make something succeed.
[Immortal's Guide] consumed an enormous amount, costing hundreds or thousands of Good Karma at the slightest use. If not for that, Lin Wen would have asked right now, "How can I drive these three little demons away?"
They had become more and more outrageous lately.
"Wow, look at his face. Those sharp features—he's clearly a handsome young guy."
"Really! I never noticed before."
"You little bitches, it's obviously because you used to be too busy drooling over his body."
"Like you weren't drooling over his body too."
"Exactly. You're still a little bitch."
After a bout of horseplay, someone let out a faint sigh.
"How wonderful it would be if he were my husband."
One person snorted. "Keep dreaming. He's already a town mayor at such a young age. Today's Imperial Daily front-page headline is about him: 'The Last Man on the Embankment,' with the subtitle 'The Ever-Burning Star in the Long Night.' Look at that. Do you think you're worthy of a man like him?"
There was a rustling sound as someone flipped out the newspaper.
"Look at this photo. It's absolutely incredible."
"Wow! No way, can someone really be this handsome?"
"I'm going to faint!"
"He's so ridiculously handsome! The peerless hero and prince charming from my dreams has appeared again!"
"Look at the lighting, the silhouette, the composition—it's simply perfect. Just as the night is about to pass but dawn has not yet arrived, when the sky is hazy and dim, he stands alone atop the embankment, facing the surging floodwaters. Doesn't a heroic spirit rise naturally within you? The momentum of 'though facing thousands upon thousands of troops, I shall still go forth' comes rushing straight at you, doesn't it?"
"Look at this scene again. Above him, dark clouds roll, and the atmosphere is grave. Beneath his feet, the embankment lies silent, danger hidden within. Before him, spray bursts upward, proving the river is raging and the enemy is close at hand. Look at his figure too—standing like an unshakable mountain, facing the enemy army head-on, with a faint sense of rising upward, like the prelude to a charging bugle."
"With all these layers of contrast building the scene, doesn't it make your heart race and leave you unable to help yourself? Facing the crushing weight of heaven and earth is him alone. That figure may be small, yet it seems to hold up the sky and stand upon the earth. Isn't that feeling explosive?"
"I'd bet this photo will absolutely win this year's Best Photography Gold Award, and crush every gold medal winner from the past twenty years."
"Sister Li, stop talking. My poor little heart can't take it anymore."
"Why do I suddenly have this terrifying sense of regret, like I want to stab down with this knife..."
"Hey! You little hussy, let go right now! That's a dangerous move—you're attempting to murder an Imperial Hero. Be careful, or the Imperial Internal Security Bureau will haul you away!"
After another long bout of horseplay, their voices suddenly grew much quieter, though Lin Wen could still hear them clearly.
"A top-tier man like this—if he hadn't happened to be lying here with us, we wouldn't even get to touch him."
"Exactly. He'll probably have a smooth official career ahead, rising like a fish leaping over the Dragon Gate and becoming a high-ranking official. Then he'll have a whole swarm of little temptresses around him, favoring them night after night..."
"Don't talk nonsense! He's an Imperial Hero. In the future, he'll only have one wife, and they'll grow old together with white hair!"
"You're so stupid! Doesn't saying that make your heart hurt even more? Do you think you can become an official's wife?"
"That's why he'd better be greedy for money and lustful for women, surrounded by hundreds of beauties. Then maybe you'll still have a chance to steal a kiss of his fragrance."
"Stop rambling, you little hussies. This is our last chance. Once he wakes up, we'll never get to touch him again. We might as well touch everything we can while we still can."
No one spoke. Only a few swallowing sounds could be heard.
"An Imperial Hero... It's my first time seeing one alive, and he's even being—uh—by me."
"Shh!"
Soft movement sounded, and Lin Wen pictured the three young nurses creeping closer on tiptoe.
"Hey, isn't what we're doing a little inappropriate?" came an extremely faint voice.
"Then get out!" another voice said without the slightest politeness. "From now on, you can touch him in your dreams."
A stretch of silence followed. Lin Wen felt his blanket being gently lifted, and several soft, boneless, slightly cool little hands slipped inside.
Unlike before, those little hands did not linger over his body. Instead, they traveled all the way down. Two hands gently lifted the only pair of shorts on his body, while another hand started pulling them down.
Lin Wen could only "wake up" immediately. He let out a huge yawn and stretched lazily.
The three little hands withdrew like lightning. There was a thump beside him, as though someone had tripped over a chair and fallen.
As if by prior agreement, all three young nurses ran out. Lin Wen could only see their slender backs and ears as red as if they had ripened.
After a short while, a shout rang out from the corridor. "The Imperial Hero has awakened!"
"The hero's awake! He's all right!"
The voices gradually faded away. Before long, countless footsteps surged over, and the door was violently forced open!
Countless long guns and short cannons, far fiercer than floodwaters, poured inside and began snapping pictures of him wildly.
The flashes came faster than they had during the thunderstorm.
A microphone was thrust straight at his mouth.
"Mayor Lin, is there anything you would like to say about defending the embankment?"
That movement seemed to flip some kind of switch, and countless microphones thrust toward him.
"Mayor Lin, it is said that all your staff ran away and were unwilling to risk their lives defending the embankment. Is that true?"
"Mayor Lin, experts say high-powered construction equipment must have been used on the embankment, but as far as I know, all of Long Mountain Commandery could not possibly possess such equipment. How did you accomplish it?"
"Mayor Lin, was the courage that supported you in fighting on the embankment born from the Empire's glory?"
"Mayor Lin..."
"Mayor Lin..."
Wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah wah.
Lin Wen felt that his patience had reached its end in an instant.
