Background and History

Estrangement from Lingxiao

Yunxiao and Lingxiao were once close fellow disciples, with mutual but unspoken feelings between them. When Lingxiao's origin was ruined and he lost his cultivation, Yunxiao distanced herself from him; when he was expelled from the Interception Sect, she did not defend him. 15 435

Seeking to restore their former bond, Yunxiao travelled with Qiongxiao to Penglai Immortal Island. She expected Lingxiao to accept their apology and become her Dao companion, but instead found him with Wangshu. Yunxiao's jealousy and anger surfaced immediately, and the sisters returned to the Interception Sect in tears after Lingxiao rejected them. 19 20 21

Her regret became increasingly consuming. She asked Lingxiao to let the past “turn to dust” and begin anew, but his continued indifference shattered her Dao Heart and left her unconscious, with her life force steadily draining away. 49 80 90

Path of the Living Array

Unable to let go of Lingxiao and determined to become strong enough to reclaim his attention, Yunxiao chose the Interception Sect's forbidden art of using her own body as an array. The technique forced formations into her meridians, Primordial Spirit, and true spirit, inflicting immense pain and risking permanent damage. 141 146

She first refined the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation into her body with the Primordial Golden Basin suppressing her origin. The completed formation could erode an entrant's flesh and true spirit, reducing immortals within it to mortals. 146 147

Yunxiao then sought out the Nether Blood Sea, where Tian Boxun assisted her in refining the Nether Blood Formation. She continued absorbing major formations despite the damage to her body, driven by the belief that greater cultivation would allow her to surpass Lingxiao and restore their relationship. 148

Investiture of the Gods War

During the Investiture of the Gods War, Yunxiao fought fiercely for the Interception Sect. She deployed the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation, the Immortal-Slaying Sword Formation, the Five Elements Ultimate Formation, and other formations against the Clarifying and Western Sects. 389 495 496

After the Nine-Bend Yellow River Formation was destroyed and her origin damaged, Yunxiao made a final stand by merging herself with her remaining formations. Daoist Randeng, Xuan Du, and Lu Ya ultimately destroyed the formations and killed her, shattering both her body and Dao. 554 560 561 562

Heavenly Court Investiture

Yunxiao's true soul entered the Investiture of the Gods rather than perishing completely. Lingxiao appointed her the Array Evolution Mystic Dao True Lord, assigning her to assist Purple Tenuity Emperor and Doumu Yuanjun in commanding celestial formations and to oversee earth-vein, feng shui, and formation arts. 562 633

Even after becoming a deity, she initially remained unable to abandon her pursuit of Lingxiao. On learning of Lingxiao and Wangshu's celestial wedding, however, Yunxiao asked Holy Mother Wudang to help sever her thoughts of desire. She personally destroyed them with the Primordial Golden Basin, receiving Heavenly Dao Merit; afterward, her former love became reverence for the East Pole Qinghua Emperor. 676 677

Her regret developed into an obsessive determination to regain Lingxiao's affection. This fixation drove her to accept humiliation, kneel before him to save Bixiao, and repeatedly endanger herself by turning her body into a vessel for formations. 106 141 146

Despite this obsession, Yunxiao is deeply protective of her sect and sisters. She was willing to offer herself for the Investiture of the Gods to save Bixiao and later used her life as the foundation of her formations in a final attempt to protect the Interception Sect. 106 446 560

After severing her thoughts of desire, Yunxiao resolves to place heaven, earth, and living beings above romantic attachments. She regards Lingxiao with reverence rather than possessive longing and resumes her duties arranging his celestial wedding. 677
