History

The Heavenly Court initially possessed weak foundations and few great experts beyond Taibai Jinxing. Haotian and Yaochi sought to strengthen it by recruiting Lingxiao and, through him, securing goodwill from Zhenyuanzi and Daoist Hongyun. 5

Lingxiao accepted the Court's offer and entered through the Eastern Heavenly Gate. Haotian and Yaochi welcomed him at High Heaven Palace, where he was elevated to Eastern Pole Qinghua Emperor—an office subordinate only to the Court's two rulers. 8 12 Haotian subsequently entrusted him with the Investiture of the Gods and the God-Beating Whip, effectively delegating the Court's preparations for the Investiture of the Gods Calamity. 13

Under Lingxiao's administration, the Court expanded its influence through investiture and recruitment. The Four Sea Dragon Kings were enfeoffed after the Dragon Clan aided in protecting the Eastern Sea Spring Eye; the Tushan Fox Clan became an auspicious race under Heavenly Court protection; and Taixuan was raised to Southern Pole Longevity Emperor. 47 93 101

The Court later seized control of the Primordial World's starry sky from the Demon Court. Chang'e was freed from the Demon Court's control and became devoted to the Heavenly Court, while the starry sky was incorporated into its authority. 114 121 The Witch Race also became tied to the Court when Hou Yi and Xingtian were appointed as War Gods. 143

Its political strength continued to grow as Kunpeng, Azure Dragon, Black Tortoise, Bai Ze, and other major powers joined or sought office within its ranks. By this stage, even rival sects regarded the Heavenly Court as the dominant orthodox power of the Three Realms. 144 250 406
