Background / History

Before graduating from the Ninja Academy, Asuma leveraged his position as the Hokage's son to ask Hiruzen Sarutobi to place him on the same team as Kurenai Yuhi and assign them a powerful instructor. He also persistently advocated for Uchiha Mo's promotion to jonin. 10 11

He graduated into Team Eight with Kurenai and Hayate. Initially confident that his father would arrange a formidable instructor, he reacted with hostility when Mo became their leader, doubting whether someone their age could be qualified to teach him. Mo immediately restrained him with Sharingan genjutsu when he acted out. 12 13

During Team Eight's first practical assessment, Asuma led with Fire Release but was outmatched by Shisui's stronger Great Fireball Technique and superior shurikenjutsu. He abandoned his insistence on fighting alone and cooperated with Kurenai and Hayate, though the team still lost. 15

Personality

Asuma is outspoken, impulsive, and strongly resistant to being controlled. His stated dream is to live freely, and he initially resents Mo's strict discipline—particularly because Mo is close to his own age. 14
