Background

Long Yi’s body originally belonged to an orphan from Mosmar Village in the North Blue and a survivor of the One-Eyed Belik village massacre. The original Long Yi trained at Marineford for two years and developed a deep hatred of pirates. After the boy collapsed and died on the training grounds, an otherworldly soul—also named Long Yi—entered the body and inherited both its memories and its obsession with becoming stronger. 11 17

He entered the Marines as a trainee and relied first on basic Marine sword forms developed into muscle memory through relentless practice. His spar with Colonel Shu exposed both his talent and his recklessness: he forced back a Headquarters colonel with Chain Thrust and instinctive reactions, but exhausted himself using Kazan’s Blade Soul and lost when Shu corroded his sword with the Rust-Rust Fruit. 11 14

The display attracted Monkey D. Karp, Fleet Admiral Sengoku, and Yatogami Taizo of the Five Elders. Karp took Long Yi as his disciple, while Taizo sought to adopt him into the Yatogami Family and make him his grandson. 15 16

Long Yi ultimately accepted the Yatogami Family’s entry process on his own terms, choosing to earn his place through accomplishment rather than privilege. Long Yi was initially a black-haired youth with a lean, muscular physique built through years of Marine training. At his Yatogami appointment ceremony, he wore a white kimono patterned with pale-blue waves and the family crest, with Purple Pill at his waist. 61

Personality

Long Yi is intensely ambitious, disciplined, and unwilling to accept weakness as permanent. Even after receiving the System, he continues to train through physical hardship, believing that techniques and weapons are meaningless without the mentality of a strong person. 20 29

He is pragmatic and often ruthless toward enemies. He is willing to eliminate threats before they can become future dangers, but distinguishes this from killing for pleasure and recognizes that indiscriminate violence can create political consequences. 205

Despite his arrogance in battle, Long Yi shows gratitude toward those who support him. He respects Karp, treats Vrom and Lolo without noble condescension, and rewards loyal subordinates with trust and material generosity. 21 124 290
