When Long Yi's demon god manifestation caused alarm at Marineford, Sengoku received him alongside Karp and Yatogami Taizo. He accepted Karp's decision to place Long Yi under protection, attempted to understand the boy's unexplained power as an exceptional innate talent, and witnessed Kazan's Blade Soul firsthand. 15

Sengoku opposed Taizo's attempt to remove Long Yi from Marine control, standing beside Karp despite formally reprimanding him for disrespecting a Five Elder. When Long Yi chose to remain a Marine, Sengoku supported his acceptance of Kitetsu because the sword would strengthen the Navy. 16
