Background

Lolo was the son of a merchant until a shipwreck, ten years before his introduction, killed everyone around him. Six years old at the time, he survived by hiding in a wooden crate and drifting for a day and a night. Pirates rescued him, then kept him as an errand boy after discovering he was not treasure. 75

Less than a year later, Marines destroyed the pirate crew. Because he had been aboard a pirate ship, Lolo was treated as merchandise rather than freed; he was sold to Mary Geoise and branded as a slave. 75

He spent seven years in the Slave Arena, where survival demanded silence, discipline, and murder. At sixteen, he was used as an assassin and infiltrated a noble banquet disguised as a servant, carrying a poisoned dagger to kill Yatogami Long Yi. 77 His attempt failed after his killing intent surfaced at the last moment, though he had initially escaped Long Yi's Observation Haki. 82

Imprisoned by the Yatogami Family afterward, Lolo asked Long Yi to grant him death as “release” for failing his mission. Long Yi instead gave him white clothing, refused to permit him to kneel, and eventually offered him genuine freedom. 88 89 118

Freedom initially left Lolo directionless. He ultimately realized that what he wanted was stability rather than liberation, having spent his happiest period under Long Yi's protection. He rejected Vrom's proposal to join P1 and chose to remain with Long Yi of his own will. 118 119
