Background / History

The Qing Kingdom has fought the neighboring Chen Kingdom for years. Blackstone Town, a Chen border settlement, becomes a front-line target when Qing formally launches a war and sends several hundred light cavalry as its vanguard. 1 27

Qing agents infiltrate Chen territory before and during the early invasion. Li Yi identifies two Qing spies by the banyan insignia on their clothing, while a recovered letter proves that a Qing general has been corresponding with Chen’s Minister of Revenue. 25 Qing later relies on Cao Li and Chen’s Revenue Office to facilitate an attack on Blackstone Town, but General Guan and Li Yi expose the collaborators and lure roughly 1,500 Qing soldiers into an ambush. 31 32 33

After the Blackstone Town defeat, Qing continues to harass the border with small infiltrating units and later assaults Wild Goose Pass. Its forces employ smoke canisters and siege equipment, but Li Yi’s defenders repel the northern-wall vanguard and kill its fifth-level Body Tempering commander. 37 45 46

Qing sends another 20,000 troops against Wild Goose Pass under deputy general Zhou Cang. Li Yi’s Wind Tiger Battalion infiltrates the main camp, burns its granaries, and helps trigger a Chen counteroffensive that ends with Zhou Cang’s death and the recovery of lost Chen territory. 48 50 52

During a Xiongnu invasion, Qing cavalry under commandant Shen Han cooperates with Li Yi’s Chen forces to annihilate the remaining Xiongnu raiders and divide the spoils. 55

Qing resumes large-scale operations alongside the Black Wind Sect. Its campaign around Autumn Wind Pass includes corpse-control methods, poisonous mist, animated corpses, demon beasts, and Black Wind Sect cultivators. Li Yi’s forces eventually eliminate a 10,000-man Qing contingent along this route. 78 80 82 83 84

When mutated beasts destroy Qing’s provisions, its army begins withdrawing from the Wild Goose Pass region. The apparent retreat is partly used as bait: commanding general Shen Bai reveals that General Guan’s informant Shen Xinghui is a double agent, then encircles the Chen army with 25,000 hidden troops. Shen Bai is killed by Li Yi, forcing Qing’s remaining forces to retreat and shifting the Wild Goose Pass front to a defensive posture for Qing. 86 87 89

Qing later coordinates with the Black Wind Sect to incite demon kings near the Chen–Qing border, aiming to destabilize Chen before launching another invasion. Li Yi counters by ambushing Qing forces at Autumn Wind Pass, then raids Qing territory, captures Proclamation City, and destroys supplies across several passes. 94 97 98

At the Battle of Wild Goose Pass, Qing fields a 70,000-strong army alongside 20,000 Xiongnu cavalry and 5,000 demon beasts. Chen’s counterattack kills Qing commander-in-chief Yao Dingyuan and routs the coalition. 99
