Background / History

Before taking up duty at Wild Goose Pass, Guan commanded Chen Kingdom forces at Blackstone Town. He recognized Li Yi's role in the ambush that destroyed two thousand Qing Kingdom soldiers and warned him that the Cao Family would seek revenge; Guan promised him protection while he remained there. Guan's merit from the victory led to orders transferring him to Wild Goose Pass. 41

At Blackstone Town, Guan exposed Sima Cao Li's collusion with the Qing Kingdom, stripped him of office, placed his associates under control, and put the camp under strict internal surveillance. After the Qing force was defeated, he personally executed Cao Li and promoted Li Yi to company commander for delivering intelligence and luring the enemy. 32 33

At Wild Goose Pass, Guan built a command structure around trusted officers from Blackstone Town, including Li Yi and Song Jie. He repeatedly entrusted Li Yi with independent commands, resources, and strategic missions while retaining overall control of the pass's defense. 42 45 52

Following the Chen Kingdom's final victory over the Qing Kingdom and its allies, Guan received transfer orders. He personally supervised the handover of Wild Goose Pass to Li Yi, who succeeded him as commanding general. 100
