Massive body, grotesque branches, razor-sharp fangs—this was a monster that did not belong in this world, a destroyer from the abyss of hell. It was over. The world was finished!
As for that human knight from earlier, Pines had no mood to think about that anymore. That human was definitely already dead. No living thing could survive beneath the Demon Tree's feet.
"I see." The clear voice went beyond Pines's expectations. She noticed that beneath the Demon Tree, the knight was still standing.
Neither branches, vines, nor flying leaves could approach the knight—there seemed to be a gust of wind surrounding her, blocking the Demon Tree's assault.
"Strong vitality, but it is ultimately just a tree. Burning it from the roots will do." As she spoke, the knight raised the silver-white knight's lance in her right hand.
It was an unusually shaped knight's lance. Its main body seemed to be woven from silver-white chains, while at its tail, the chains split apart and coiled around the knight's right hand, making one wonder how exactly she held it.
At that moment, the entire lance lit up. Dazzling holy radiance flashed from the tip to the tail, then gathered at the spearhead.
Bands of light appeared in the air, crisscrossing around the lance like chains, as though trying to bind the knight's lance, which had already become a pillar of light.
The Demon Tree seemed to sense the threat. Countless thick branches surged toward the knight, but they still could not cross the wind barrier around her three-foot radius. The vines gathered outside the barrier, gradually wrapping around it entirely and obscuring the holy light.
But the darkness lasted only an instant. The next moment, the knight opened her mouth and spoke words of praise that seemed to come from ancient times.
Then, a pillar of light burst from the holy lance, piercing through the vines, through the Demon Tree's body, and through the clouds, illuminating the night as brightly as day.
Pines, who had witnessed everything, did not know what to say. She even suspected it was all an illusion. It felt as though every bit of her common sense had been overturned.
Watching the Demon Tree be engulfed by blazing flames within the pillar of light as it slowly fell, she realized that the knight before her was a monster even more terrifying than the Destroyer Demon Tree.
"Kn-Knight, may I ask who you are?" Pines asked fearfully.
"For now, I am merely an adventurer." Answering coldly, the knight turned toward Pines's true body.
"You are a treant, aren't you?"
"Y-Yes."
"Are there any others like you in this forest?" the knight asked.
"No. There may be some in a few decades, but right now, I truly am the only treant with intelligence."
"I see." Apparently having no intention of asking anything further, the knight turned to leave.
"Please wait, Knight!" Pines called out to stop her.
"What is it?" The knight turned sideways and asked coldly.
"Thank you so much for rescuing me. The Demon Tree waking up ahead of schedule was truly terrifying..."
"You said it woke up ahead of schedule?" The knight caught the key point in her words and asked, "Ahead of schedule? What does that mean?"
"Ah? Well, the Demon Tree was supposed to awaken at least a month later, but for some reason, it woke up early."
"What reason?" The knight seemed very concerned about this matter.
Pines thought for a moment, then said, "Because not long ago, a Divine Tree descended. The Destroyer Demon Tree received its summons. No, not just the Destroyer Demon Tree—it could be said that all intelligent plant-type magical beasts in the world were unable to resist the Divine Tree's summons!"
As she spoke, the treant sighed.
"The descent of the Divine Tree was clearly a once-in-a-thousand-years event, yet who would have thought it would instead draw the Demon Tree into awakening?"
"The Divine Tree you speak of—was it planted by someone?"
