Medis sat there in despair, listening to the two men and one woman chat about all sorts of things. On the surface, they were interrogating him, but they had not let him say a word at all. The burly man had started off with a barrage of punches, and Medis felt as though every bone in his body had been broken.

As for the boy and girl, they merely watched the man beat up the old man while chatting about other matters nearby.

Medis was a priest, an unlucky priest whose life had not gone particularly well. He had trained at the Grand Temple in Holy City Vantis, and his first posting had been at a church in the Holy City.
