According to the doctrines of the Six Great Gods' churches, all nonhuman races were humanity's enemies, and the undead were humanity's greatest foes.

To high-ranking undead like vampires, humans were food and toys, no different from bread.

Through the church's propaganda, that impression had been deeply branded into the minds of the populace.

Thus, Evileye's parents also believed that becoming a vampire was an unforgivable fall and betrayal, and that only the church could Rescue the fallen—with iron spikes, crosses, and fire.

In her parents' and brother's eyes, handing a vampire over to the church probably truly meant rescuing her.
