Hemolysis Agent
Hong Mo knew where the archive room was, but he had never been there. In this research institute, Lingyin had much greater freedom.
After all, Lingyin had been cultivated here, and these researchers had also been responsible for her education. Though she was an experimental subject, a child they had taught from a blank slate still did not inspire much wariness in them.
The seven of them arrived at the archive room, which contained not only electronic records but also original handwritten notes.
Hong Mo's computer skills were awful—truly awful. Before coming here, he had only used computers to browse the internet and play games. Not to mention how far computer technology had advanced over the past ten years. So after entering the archive room, Hong Mo picked up a notebook. Meanwhile, one of the five-person team, an expert with computers, searched through the electronic records.
Perhaps the situation really was urgent, because the computer expert performed beyond his limits. His fingers clattered nonstop across the keyboard as endless streams of data flashed across the screen.
"Found it! This research institute really does have Hemolysis Agent, in the B-13 Biological Reagent Warehouse." Rejoicing, he pulled up the layout of the research institute.
A route extended from the archive room to the B-13 Biological Reagent Warehouse.
"But there may be some trouble. The defenses around the B-13 reagent warehouse are extremely tight. Breaking through them will take a long time." Sweat trickled down his face as he looked at the security network on the computer.
"Time, time, damn it. Xiaoya, how much time do we have left?"
"Since entering the research institute, we've killed every researcher we encountered. But we can't rule out the possibility that someone else leaked the news. From the moment the news got out, the nearest armed unit would need fifty to sixty minutes to get here. More than forty minutes have already passed. Time is running out."
"If it's just opening the doors, perhaps I can help," Hong Mo said slowly.
"You can?" The five-person team was somewhat startled.
"Yeah. Then let me ask you this—do you still need these computers?" Hong Mo asked.
"No. If you're truly confident you can open the passageways, then these computers are useless," the computer expert said, shaking his head.
"Fine, move aside." Hong Mo had him step back, then found the wires behind the computer and tore them apart with his hands. A violent current surged from Hong Mo's palm, traveling through the wires to every control room. There was no need for passwords or fingerprints. Hong Mo directly supplied the electricity, opening every passageway while frying all the defensive mechanisms.
Electric light flickered, and the five people across from him were left staring blankly. Such powerful electromagnetic abilities, and he even had high-speed regeneration. Good thing they had not come into conflict earlier.
"You're amazing. I'm an electromagnetic-type ability user too, but I'm nowhere near your level." The computer expert shook his head, looking rather dejected.
"Oh? You're an electromagnetic-type ability user too?"
"Yeah, but my ability leans more toward calculation. When I operate a computer, I can synchronize with its operation, making it easier to obtain the information inside." The man seemed to have no guard up at all, casually revealing his ability to Hong Mo.
Was that so? Hong Mo smiled without commenting.
"Let's go. All the passageways are open. Didn't you say we don't have much time? The sooner we get the Hemolysis Agent, the safer we'll be." Taking the lead, Hong Mo held Lingyin's hand and headed toward the B-13 reagent warehouse.
There were countless different reagents inside the warehouse. Fortunately, the computer expert had already memorized where the Hemolysis Agent was stored.
"Found it." They all looked delightedly at the row of transparent, colorless agents on the shelf. There were ten doses in total, enough for everyone present.
"By the way, I have a question. If someone doesn't have a Particle Bomb in their body, would injecting this agent harm them?" Hong Mo suddenly asked.
"It would cause some harm, some degree of damage to the body, but it wouldn't be severe. Actually, whether or not there's a Particle Bomb in the body, that damage is unavoidable." The woman answered Hong Mo's question.
Was that so? With his question answered, Hong Mo took two doses from the shelf and injected one into himself and one into Lingyin. He was simply preparing for the worst, because he did not know whether he or Lingyin had been implanted with these so-called Particle Bombs. It seemed there was no sensation at all. After injecting it, Hong Mo did not notice even the slightest abnormality.
Of the remaining three doses, Hong Mo took one, while the ability-user team put away the other two. No one knew whether these precious agents might be useful in the future, so it was better to keep them.
"We're leaving. What about you? Do you want to come with us?" the team leader invited Hong Mo, clearly valuing his abilities.
"Dad, take the little bats with us." Before Hong Mo could answer, Lingyin suddenly made her request.
Little bats—Hong Mo knew what she meant. They were mutated creatures cultivated alongside Lingyin, organisms created by combining Hong Mo's cells with Bloodwing Bat chromosomes.
Of the original cell fusion experiments, three had succeeded: an embryo fused with Mu Siyu's cells, an embryo fused with Bloodwing Bat cells, and an embryo fused with deep-sea electric eel cells.
Hong Lingyin was now five years old, while this new type of little bat had only been born recently. As for the final creature fused with the deep-sea electric eel, there was still no sign of activity.
Perhaps because of their blood relationship, Lingyin got along extremely well with these little bats. They also possessed simple intelligence and could understand basic commands.
Taking the little bats away was not a difficult request, but taking so many of them along would be troublesome.
"There are several thousand little bats, aren't there? How are we supposed to take them with us?" Hong Mo rubbed his brow. Hong Lingyin had no friends in this research institute. These little bats were her only friends.
"Dad, I have a way. Look." As she spoke, a transparent ripple flashed across Hong Lingyin's hand, and a dark-red, furry creature appeared in her tiny palm.
"How did you do that?" Hong Mo was utterly astonished.
LV4: Soul Space. The five people opposite him were even more shocked than Hong Mo. Unlike Hong Mo, who had been confined here for six years with such limited access to information, they could immediately tell from the little bat suddenly appearing in the young girl's palm that she had awakened as an LV4 ability user with Soul Space.
LV4. Although LV levels were not directly related to strength, they at least represented an ability user's talent and potential.
"Soul Space..." The woman's face was filled with disbelief.
"What Soul Space?" Hong Mo asked in confusion.
"It concerns the classification of ability levels. Time is extremely tight right now, so I don't have the spare time to explain it all clearly. But this isn't confidential information. Once you get outside, you'll learn about it easily enough." The woman did not explain immediately. She was right; the situation did not permit it, and there was not enough time.
"Then we'll be going first. I'm sorry we can't accompany you to take away these little bats." The team leader looked genuinely apologetic.
"It's nothing. Then let's part ways here." Hong Mo waved his hand and led Lingyin toward the room where the little bats were being cultivated.
After Hong Mo disappeared around the corner, the smile vanished from the team leader's face. "That guy is strong. And his daughter's potential is truly astonishing."
"Yeah. That little girl isn't even six yet, right? And she's already awakened Soul Space. It's unbelievable."
"Forget it, let's go. This isn't the time to discuss that. No matter what, we've made his acquaintance. Maybe there'll be a time in the future when we need his help."
"I hope we never need his help. That would mean we've definitely fallen into some kind of desperate situation." The short man scratched his head.
"You're right about that. Hahaha, it'd be best if we never need his help." Chatting and laughing, the group ran toward the exit of the research institute. Having found the Hemolysis Agent and removed the hidden danger in their bodies, the pressure in their hearts eased severalfold.
LV4, Soul Space, Hong Mo thought as he led Lingyin toward the little bats.
The place where the little bats were raised was an ecological chamber. Inside, the bones and corpses of mutated creatures had been tossed everywhere. Hong Mo frowned at the chaotic mess before him.
The little bats had been born after the research institute had fallen quiet. These ordinary researchers did not have the energy to look after such little creatures, especially after one of them had been sucked dry into a human husk.
Yes, these little bats drank blood, and they were carnivores as well. The researchers' job was simply to feed them creatures at fixed times each day. Dead or alive, either would do.
The moment they entered the ecological chamber, thousands of little bats flew out from the darkness at once, filling the air like a black cloud.
Hong Mo remained somewhat wary, uncertain whether these bats would attack him. Logically speaking, they still carried some of his genes.
The dark-red bats continuously circled Hong Lingyin. Some landed on Hong Mo, occasionally sniffing him or sticking out their tiny tongues to give him a lick.
Fortunately, they did not attack. Though they were not as intimate with Hong Mo as they were with Hong Lingyin, at least the bats did not assault him. The bats circling Lingyin swiftly vanished, as though they had been swallowed by some invisible space. Before long, every last bat had disappeared.
"All right, let's go, Dad." Hong Lingyin turned and smiled at Hong Mo.
"Mm, let's go." Hong Mo nodded.
Soul Space, Hong Mo thought. Once I get out, I have to find out exactly what this is. Every door along the way had already been opened or forcibly destroyed, clearly the work of that superpowered squad.
With nothing blocking his path, Hong Mo held Lingyin's hand and ran swiftly onward. He could no longer wait to see the sky ten years later.
Ten years!
Hong Mo clenched his fists. A trace of excitement and a trace of hatred spread through his heart.
