Background / History

The Xiao Clan was once one of the Dou God Clans. Its last great leader, Xiao Xuan, was regarded as the strongest expert of his era, but the clan’s attempt to break through to the Dou Di realm failed; Xiao Xuan died, and the clan retreated into seclusion while pursued by enemies. Its Dou Di bloodline later dried up. 37 38 76

Despite its decline, the clan retained elements of its ancient heritage, including the Ancient Jade that drew the Gu Clan’s attention. The jade cannot be detected by ordinary means, including Gu Xun Er’s father. 37 38

By the present era, the clan was a comparatively small family in Wutan City. Its strongest publicly known member was only a Da Dou Shi, while its descendants preserved traditions associated with its former status. 4 58

Heritage and Cultivation Resources

The Xiao Clan’s present-day resources are far below those of its ancestors. At the time of Nalan Yanran’s visit, its highest fire-attributed cultivation technique was the high-grade Yellow Tier Flame Refining Incineration, while its strongest overall technique was the mid-grade Mystic Tier Raging Lion Fury, which was unsuitable for Xiao Yan’s fire-attributed Dou Qi. 37

Wutan City and Xiao Yan’s Rise

Xiao Yan’s cultivation made him the clan’s foremost prodigy and the spiritual pillar of its younger generation. At fourteen, he achieved seven-star Dou Zhe, surpassing Jia Nan Academy’s highest admission benchmark and bringing enormous prestige to the clan. 34

The clan’s elders viewed Xiao Yan and Xun Er as a potentially beneficial match, though Xiao Zhan remained wary because Xun Er was not originally a member of the Xiao Clan. 34

Annulment of the Nalan Engagement

Nalan Yanran and the Misty Cloud Sect came to dissolve her engagement to Xiao Yan. The entire upper echelon of the Xiao Clan gathered for the visit, initially believing it concerned the marriage arrangements. 35 36

The annulment was treated as an insult to both Xiao Yan and the clan. Clan disciples openly defended Xiao Yan, while Xiao Mei and Xiao Ning urged him to uphold the clan’s honor. 36

Xiao Yan lost the initial clash against Nalan Yanran’s superior cultivation method and Green Wood Sword Art, but injured her with a surprise punch. He then accepted a three-year duel at the Misty Cloud Sect and vowed that he and the Xiao Clan could one day surpass it. 36 37

Three-Year Agreement and Relocation

Three years later, Xiao Yan returned as an eighteen-year-old one-star Dou Wang and defeated Nalan Yanran with overwhelming ease. He later defeated the Misty Cloud Sect’s five-star Dou Wang Grand Elder Yun Leng, while Xun Er intervened against the sect’s retaliation. 70 71 72 74 75

Following Xiao Yan’s emergence as the Jia Ma Empire’s youngest Dou Wang, the Jia Ma Imperial Family granted the Xiao Clan land and a residence in the imperial capital. The clan began relocating from Wutan City, with Xiao Yu and Xiao Ning intending to leave Jia Nan Academy and assist with establishing the family there. 88
