Background / History
Ancient Celestial Court
The ancient Celestial Court occupied the highest of the Nine Heavens. Heavenly Emperor Di Jun and Heavenly Empress Xihe, associated with the sun and moon, presided over the realm while gods gathered around them as protectors. The Heavenly River ran through all Nine Heavens and served as the center of military training and deployment. 157
Its sovereignty was not exclusively Di Jun's: Eastern Sovereign Taiyi held equal status as the emperor of demons, making the ancient regime a dual exaltation of emperor and sovereign. 243
Celestial beings born from heavenly pure qi entered the Court as loyal guards. Most served within immortal palaces, while those with superior foundations could become heavenly soldiers, generals, or officials favored by the Heavenly Emperor. 156
Collapse and Fall
The Court suffered a catastrophic collapse during the upheaval surrounding the Water and Fire Gods. It broke away from the firmament and plummeted, throwing its soldiers and generals into panic; it was later repaired, restoring temporary order. 177
The disaster of the Milky River's Weak Water devastated the mortal realm, causing widespread death and injury. The Court's involvement in the conflict and flood provoked the hostility of mortal powers and ancient gods. 178 214
Its final decline was marked by the breaking of the All-Heaven Star Array, blood staining the Lunar Star, and the Solar Star going dark—events indicating the deaths of Heavenly Empress Xihe and Heavenly Emperor Di Jun. 249
Reestablishment under Fuxi
After the ancient Court lost power, independent ancient divine kingdoms and major factions began competing for its vacant authority. 255
Human Emperor Fuxi sought to rebuild the Celestial Court around a new hierarchy of the Three Purities, Four Sovereigns, Five Directions, Five Elders, and celestial constellations. The support of ancient Celestial Venerables was necessary because much of Heaven and Earth's authority remained in their hands. 342
The second-generation Celestial Court was formally reestablished after Yang Huai became the Northern Pole Central Heaven Purple Tenuity Emperor. Its initial legitimacy was weak: many gods regarded it as an empty shell erected under the Three Pure Ones' name and waited to see whether it could endure. 344 347
Governance and Organization

- Heavenly Emperor Di Jun — Ancient Heavenly Emperor and Sun God; ruled alongside Heavenly Empress Xihe before the ancient Court's fall. 157 249

Stellar Authority and Defenses
The All-Heaven Star Array is the Court's foremost celestial defense and a system vital to the livelihood of countless beings. It originally relied on the Solar and Lunar Stars as its two principal cores. 344 348
Yang Huai later altered the array's structure, replacing the All-Heaven Star Chart and the River Map and Luo Writing with the Astral Profundity Diagram. The revised formation made Purple Tenuity its primary core, with the Solar and Lunar Stars reduced to secondary positions. 348
- The Court's original array control was weakened when Yang Huai modified its banners, array core, and suppressing treasure. 348
- Fuxi retained the political authority of the Heavenly Emperor but recognized that the All-Heaven Star Array had slipped from his direct control. 348
- In exchange for assistance opening the All-Heaven Star Sea, the Court received fifteen percent of its fortune, though its governance and newly born offices remained outside Court control. 358
Military Forces
The ancient Court fielded countless heavenly soldiers and generals, alongside star officials, high gods, and demon gods. Its forces were described as numbering in the hundreds of millions. 158
Its military system included training camps along the Heavenly River, arena challenges for promotion, and the Heavenly Marshal Camp for cultivating elite commanders. 157 178
- Heavenly River forces — Raised after the Weak Water disaster; Yang Huai was ordered to train an elite force capable of operating around the Heavenly River. 178
- Baohua Hall guard — A palace defense assignment that could earn promotion and divine office through faithful service. 159
- Demon god contingent — Demon gods increasingly occupied celestial star-official positions in the ancient Court, causing resentment among other gods. 158 162
Political Developments
Yang Huai's Temporary Rule
When Fuxi became trapped in the River of Time, the Court's gods struggled to govern without a Heavenly Emperor. Yang Huai, as Northern Pole Purple Tenuity Emperor, was urged to preside over the institution. 392
He subsequently announced that he would temporarily assume the Heavenly Emperor's position and establish Purple Tenuity Palace within the Celestial Court. 393
- His temporary mandate was set at five thousand years. 393
- He proposed conferring the title of Three Purities Heavenly Venerables upon the Mystic Sect's three leaders, placing them above the Four Imperials in honor. 393
- He later promised to abdicate after five hundred years and support Yan Emperor Shennong's succession, demonstrating that the Court remained a coalition of major powers rather than a fully centralized state. 399
Mystic Sect Influence
The Mystic Sect's influence expanded through its control of two of the Four Imperials, the All-Heaven Star Sea, Purple Tenuity Palace, and the Three Purities' prestige. 369 393
By the later era, the Mystic Sect Dao Court had become the effective ruler of the Wild Wasteland, and even the Celestial Court had to submit to its restraint and influence. 548
