Background
Astaroth served Prince Kael'thas alongside Rommath. After learning of Lister's victory over Joel, Kael'thas ordered Astaroth—who had volunteered for the task—to represent him and make contact with the young half-elf. 8
By Lister's arrival in Dalaran, Astaroth was teaching High Elven Language. He introduced himself as “Astaroth Bloodrage” and emphasized that he respected each student's individual talents, though he held little tolerance for blatant foolishness or disrespect. 10
Later, Astaroth became involved in Lister's newspaper venture. He helped revise Lister's article for the first issue, then assumed responsibility for the spell section. The section's early financial success made him its editor-in-chief, though Kirin Tor oversight subsequently reduced his workload and share of the revenue. 20 22
Appearance
Astaroth is an ordinary-looking high elf distinguished more by his equipment and manner than by imposing physical traits. 8
- Golden hair.
- Deeply sunken eyes.
- Slightly hunched back.
- Carries an enormous staff on his back. 8
Personality
Astaroth is patient in the classroom but sharply stern toward disruptive behavior. He is willing to accommodate differing talents and rarely gives low grades, yet he publicly labels Nobo an “idiot” after the apprentice arrives late. 10
Outside formal instruction, he is playful and irreverent. He jokes with Lor'themar after killing a fel-infused gnoll, calls his companions “beggars,” and laughs “like a thousand-year-old child” during their shared meal. 19
He can also be melancholy, particularly when his editorial income is reduced. During the Winter Veil Festival, however, heavy drinking turns him into the center of the celebration; he challenges nearly everyone present to drink and consumes three barrels of apple cider in a day. 28 29
