Firelord, one of Galactus's three great heralds, narrowed his eyes and stepped forward first.

"Don't get in the way. This isn't something you can bear."

"How interesting, coming from an accomplice preparing to destroy our planet," Stark said sarcastically.

Flames erupted around Firelord. His scepter spun one hundred and eighty degrees in his hand, and with a kick off the ground, he shot toward the people of Earth like a fireball tearing through the air.

A golden flash swept past from the side. A human figure was wrapped within the golden beam—it was Captain Marvel. She suddenly cut in from an unexpected angle and rammed straight into Firelord. The two tangled together, rolling several times after hitting the ground. Cosmic flame and golden energy carved a burning fissure across the earth.

Captain Marvel rolled twice more and sprang to her feet, watching Firelord from several paces away. He also got up quickly, looking somewhat disheveled but completely unhurt.

"You are different from the other humans, woman," Firelord said in a low voice. "Step aside. I do not wish to hurt you."

Captain Marvel wiped her mouth and sneered confidently. "Funny. I was about to say almost the same thing."

Seeing that a peaceful resolution was impossible, Firelord roared and charged again, swinging his scepter. Captain Marvel showed no fear. Golden light flared around her as she met his attack head-on.

Invisible Woman and Human Torch of the Fantastic Four also arrived to provide support, while Colonel Rhodes, wearing the War Machine armor, kept his distance and supplied firepower.
