A blue beam shot out from the core of the Nova Corps, like an unsheathed sword flying up from the ground, piercing through the atmosphere and locking onto the enemy.

The energy cannon fired by Nova's central energy computer was a full-force eruption of the energy within that dimensional space connecting every Nova in the entire Corps.

Nova energy seemed to blast a hole through the sky. The blue sword bore down on the living planet Ego with a force that seemed capable of cleaving everything apart.

But the attack failed to achieve the result everyone had hoped for.

It was intercepted midway. Powerful energies of various colors erupted from Planet Ego, converging into a spiraling blast that collided with the Nova energy halfway. The two forces repelled and detonated against each other, spreading along Xandar's surface as though scattering the clouds across the sky.

"Report! The central energy cannon was ineffective! I repeat! The central energy cannon was ineffective..."

Nova Centurion Roman's expression darkened. "That's impossible. The central energy cannon can easily tear apart a large planet. How could it have no effect at all?"

Richard narrowed his eyes.

"That wasn't Ego's power that intercepted it just now. It was a cosmic energy attack," he said. "Those old Elders are on Ego. Ego is basically their mobile warship and fortress, while they can serve as Ego's onboard turrets."

Nova Prime beside him pondered for a moment. "So any attack we launch is completely useless."

"Yes, unless someone deals with those old bastards from the inside."
