"Heroes from the Greek mainland, who rode here aboard the Argo..."
A deep, resounding voice echoed throughout the banquet hall, instantly silencing the feast. Everyone turned toward its source—the center of the palace.
The one speaking was none other than Colchis's king—Aeetes.
Medea's claim that he had an uncle's face was not accurate.
He was currently in the prime of his life, strong and vigorous, looking every bit the extraordinary and valiant man.
He was the son of the former sun god Helios and the Oceanid Perse, inheriting a powerful divine bloodline. Though he was the ruler of a nation, he was also a formidable warrior no less capable than the Argonauts.
Standing tall in the great hall, Aeetes said solemnly, "Welcome to the Colchis Kingdom. Compared with the nations of you heroes, Colchis may seem somewhat humble. If there has been any inadequacy in our hospitality, I ask for your generous understanding."
Voices of agreement immediately rose throughout the banquet, especially from the Argonauts, who naturally praised Colchis repeatedly.
This was not mere politeness. To them, it was simply the truth.
After all, Colchis was situated beside Mystra Academy. As the saying went, one was influenced by one's surroundings. Colchis had learned many things from Mystra Academy that were advanced beyond this era, naturally making the nation appear more progressive and civilized than anywhere on the Greek mainland.
At the very least, tonight's cuisine had greatly broadened the Argonauts' horizons.
What followed was naturally a round of pleasantries. Both sides praised each other—you spoke of my nation's prosperity, I praised your heroic bearing—and in short, host and guests alike enjoyed themselves.
"Earlier today, I received word of your purpose in coming here."
Aeetes abruptly changed the subject.
The Argonauts all knew that the real matter was about to begin.
