The rest was simple.

Every official who had been sold out or reported, each and every one of them, adopted the mindset of dying together. They went all out, spilling everything and daring to expose anyone.

By the end, Ye Ting did not even need to use Suggestion anymore. Everyone had given up on themselves and begun exposing their colleagues of their own accord. They needed no misleading from him; accusations and evidence poured forth without end.

Thus, the people watched as the officials present were dragged onto the stage one after another in order, their crimes read aloud. They readily confessed, accused others, and then those accused took the stage in turn to accuse still more people.

In the end, there were not even enough clerks to copy down the words of those being tried. Nitocris had no choice but to temporarily requisition bookkeepers and similar workers employed by certain merchants to serve as clerks and record their "revelations."

Nearly every official put on trial had an impossibly long list of crimes to their name. Nitocris was astonished to discover that at least a third of these officials would be sacrificed to Sobek, while the rest would receive punishments such as "hand-chopping," "hard labor," and "exile."

Among the officials present, only a little over ten escaped being accused by anyone and thus avoided disaster. Without exception, they were people of low status whose positions were not particularly important.

That was hardly surprising. In an officialdom where everyone was corrupt, such filth had long become commonplace. Those unable to adapt to the environment or fit in with the others would naturally be ostracized and assigned either the hardest, most exhausting work or the most irrelevant, unnoticed duties.

Such positions usually offered neither profit nor power. Even if those unwilling to
