In most cases, mages were mysterious.

They often lived apart from the world, occupying a transcendent position through their extraordinary power. Though they offered some assistance to mortal regimes, they rarely involved themselves too deeply.

The power of magic left them with no desire for worldly fame, profit, or status, because magic could satisfy almost any need. For most of them, their greatest goal was to approach Truth and study the mysteries of magic.

In most worlds where mages existed, they were this sort of being.

That was true in World of Warcraft, and it was true in the Type-Moon world as well—if Azeroth did not constantly erupt with world-ending disasters and spawn a few demon kings bent on destroying the world, Dalaran would never have cared whether the human kingdoms lived or died.

However, Ye Ting was different from those peers.

Like ordinary mages, Ye Ting pursued the mysteries of magic, but he also actively involved himself in mortal conflicts. Not for any other reason, but for a certain sentiment buried deep in his heart.

That sentiment came from his nostalgia for his hometown, Earth, and from the time he had spent with these other worlds through novels, anime, and games.

And ever since coming to the Type-Moon world, he had developed a new idea.

Heroic Spirits were a specialty... no, a defining feature of the Type-Moon world.

Heroic Spirits were beings formed from heroes whose great deeds had become legends after death, turning them into objects of faith. Even if a Heroic Spirit had never truly existed in history, heroes from myths and legends could still be born through the gathering of belief.
