According to the Type-Moon worldview, under normal predictions, humanity should originally have ultimately evolved into Earth's Ultimate One—Type Earth.

One could even say that Gilgamesh, the "Heaven's Wedge" created by the Mesopotamian pantheon, had been "born" as the prototype of the first Type Earth.

But at some point, humanity had strayed from its path. As "humans," subordinate to nature's will, gained independent consciousness, they embarked upon a "path" that diverged from nature's will. This was the beginning of the Spiral of Contradiction.

"Alaya" had originally been a part of "Gaia," but then differentiated into an independent existence, relying on the reason produced by humanity's highly developed brains. The two Counter Forces had subtle fundamental differences: for "Gaia," as long as the world was safe, it did not matter what became of humanity; for "Alaya," even if it meant eroding the entire planet, humanity's continued existence had to be ensured.

The reason the two had remained at peace for such a long time was that, for humanity, if the planet were destroyed, they could not survive either—unless humanity developed technology that allowed it to live without relying on the planet. As it turned out, that truly was possible.

However, above Alaya consciousness, there might exist a fifth layer of consciousness—Amara consciousness.

Just as "Alaya" had emerged from "Gaia," "Amara" had also arisen from the depths of "Alaya." Humanity's will to survive had betrayed nature's will, and individuals had likewise betrayed the collective. The gathering of such individuals was what the world called "religious believers," "saints," and "magicians."

"Saints" contemplated ultimate Truth; "religious believers" practiced asceticism, abstained from sex, and resisted the seven deadly sins; "magicians" would rather die than stop advancing toward Truth.

Since "gods" possessed no faculty of cognition, cognition surpassed "gods"; since gods were merely a kind of desire
