Upper Capital.
The National Preceptor's Residence.
It was midmorning, and the warm sun hung high.
Beads of sweat as large as beans dripped from Jiang Ning.
They struck the bluestone floor one after another, leaving distinct wet marks.
The marks quickly dried and vanished.
Suddenly, Jiang Ning stopped what he was doing. Golden light flashed in his hand, and the Heavenly Secrets Register appeared.
He sent a strand of divine sense into it.
A breath later, his expression changed. He looked toward Dongling City.
"My lord! My lord! There's news!" A maid from the National Preceptor's Residence hurried over.
Jiang Ning turned and saw the young woman's flushed face and heard her labored breathing.
"My lord, the latest news is that the Yellow Heaven Cult slew the great demon White Horned Dragon on the banks of the Luo River and raised the banner of rebellion."
"And after slaying it, they found the Human Emperor Sword in its belly!"
"The news spread throughout the Royal Capital in a single morning!"
"Everyone outside is saying the Yellow Heaven Daoist is the one truly chosen by heaven, the true Human Emperor."
Seeing how hard she was breathing, Jiang Ning grew serious.
"Was there no word of this yesterday?"
"None!" She shook her head quickly. "People only started spreading it this morning, and within a few hours, it had swept through all of Upper Capital!"
"Where's the National Preceptor?" Jiang Ning asked.
He had just spread his divine sense. Though he could not reach the bamboo grove, he could faintly tell that Su Qingying was no longer at the National Preceptor's Residence.
"The National Preceptor left early this morning. I heard she went to see Lord Xiao," the maid said.
"Xiao Wuque?" Jiang Ning looked puzzled.
"Yes, him!" She nodded.
