As night fell, the temperature plunged, and the cold wind howled.
Jiang Ning and Ji Mingyue walked side by side down a quiet corridor.
"How did things suddenly turn out like this?" Ji Mingyue's voice was tinged with sorrow.
Jiang Ning gave a faint smile. "Don't worry."
"How can I not worry?" Ji Mingyue shook her head. "I watched my father's body waste away, step by step, until the oil was spent and the lamp went out."
She stopped and turned to Jiang Ning.
Sensing her halt, Jiang Ning stopped too and looked at her.
"While you're still healthy, I want to have your child. I want to leave you an heir."
Jiang Ning could only look at her with a wry smile.
"What brought this on all of a sudden?"
"Of the three ways to be unfilial, having no heir is the worst!" Ji Mingyue said.
"That's not what that saying means!" Jiang Ning shook his head.
"That doesn't matter!" Ji Mingyue shook her head just as firmly. "I only know I have to leave something of you behind. I want someone to visit your grave ten years from now, even a hundred years from now."
As she spoke, large tears rolled down her cheeks.
"You silly girl." Jiang Ning smiled, his heart aching at the sight of her tear-filled eyes, and wiped away her tears.
"I'm still alive and well! I'm tough to kill. I'm not going to die that easily!"
"And another thing," Jiang Ning added. "Stop thinking about having a child. At the level I've reached, getting pregnant wouldn't be that simple even if you wanted to. But don't worry. I'll survive this. I won't leave you a widow."
