History
Earlier era
During Naruto and Niu Dashan's visit to Konoha in its 28th year, the village had recently won the Second Shinobi World War. It remained largely forested and built from wooden structures, but settlers seeking stability had already made it prosperous. 127
Niu Dashan credited Konoha's strength to promoting talented shinobi such as Minato Namikaze, Kakashi, Obito Uchiha, Might Guy, and Shisui Uchiha. He also integrated the Senju Clan into the village and encouraged inter-clan unity through his marriage to Mizuki Uchiha. 127
Uchiha crisis and Tsunade's accession
Conflict between the Uchiha Clan and the Hokage faction escalated into ANBU surveillance, retaliatory attacks, and a planned rebellion. 10 14 The Third Hokage died during the ensuing crisis, while the Uchiha were publicly blamed for releasing the Nine-Tails. 17 26
Tsunade succeeded him as the Fifth Hokage. The Uchiha Clan was formally disbanded: members without Sharingan had their memories sealed and were resettled elsewhere in Konoha, while remaining Sharingan users were assigned across different squads. 25
Under Tsunade, Konoha regained strength, supported by senior shinobi including Kakashi, Jiraiya, Might Guy, and Yamato, as well as rising figures such as Naruto Uzumaki and Hinata Hyuga. 116
Akatsuki attack and destruction
Nagato targeted Konoha as a remnant of the old shinobi order. Naruto did not respond to Tsunade's summons and remained underground rather than intervene. 151 152
Nagato's Six Paths of Pain attacked the village, allowing civilians time to flee before Deva Path Pain used Super Shinra Tensei. Itachi, Tsunade, Sasuke, and other defenders failed to stop the attack; more than half of Konoha had already been ruined before its complete destruction. 152 153
Danzo and Root remained hidden outside the village, choosing to preserve their strength rather than join the defense. 152
Reconstruction
Following the Fourth Shinobi World War, the Shinobi World was unified under the Qingqiu Kingdom. Konoha rose again from destruction and became a prosperous center visited by people from across the world. 191 193
A temple honoring Naruto as the Nine-Tails Sage was built east of Konoha. The village's former association with the Nine-Tails as a disaster was replaced by a popular belief that the beast was Naruto's auspicious guardian. 193

Institutions and Security
- Hokage administration — Konoha was governed by the Third Hokage before his death, then by Tsunade as Fifth Hokage. 17 25
- Ninja Academy — The academy educated children from both clans and ordinary families, though social divisions remained visible among its students. 6
- ANBU, Root, and guard force — All three organizations monitored suspicious outsiders entering Konoha, as seen when Boruto and Sasuke's arrival drew immediate attention. 73
- Hokage faction — The Hokage Building housed a political network of elders, advisers, and shinobi aligned with the village leadership. 67 108
- Martial arts halls — In the rebuilt era, shinobi could openly teach their specialties. Tenten established a Konoha martial arts hall for teaching the Flying Raijin Technique. 193
Layout and Architecture
Konoha was initially surrounded by forests, with training grounds at the forest's edge and rivers connected to waterways beyond the village. 1 In the earlier era visited by Naruto, forests still occupied most of its area and its buildings were wooden. 127
After reconstruction, the academy gained new teaching blocks and a substantially expanded playground. 193 By Naruto and Hinata's later return, Konoha had developed into a dense city of broad-topped, mushroom-shaped buildings covered in vegetation, designed to preserve ecological balance while expressing the settlement's distinct identity. 238
- A temple to the Nine-Tails Sage stands east of the city. 193
- The streets became crowded with residents, visitors, shops, and martial arts halls. 193 238
- Vegetation-covered roofs make much of the city difficult to distinguish from the surrounding forest when viewed from above. 238
Notable Residents and Associations
- Naruto Uzumaki — Grew up in Konoha despite widespread hostility from residents during his childhood; later became revered there as the Nine-Tails Sage. 1 193
- Tsunade — Fifth Hokage who led Konoha after the Third Hokage's death and oversaw its renewed strength before Akatsuki's attack. 25 116
- Uchiha Clan — Once a major clan within Konoha; disbanded and redistributed after its failed rebellion. 25
- Tenten — Founded Tenten's Martial Arts Hall in the rebuilt city to teach Flying Raijin. 193
