Background / History

Gu Mo began as an ordinary human before acquiring the System and entering Dungeon worlds. The System restored his initially sub-healthy condition to a normal baseline, after which he rapidly strengthened himself through attribute allocation, Skill Badges, and practical combat. His earliest growth focused on physical conditioning, talisman-making, basic swordsmanship, and learning how to use Guardian Spirits. 23 37 57

During his early Sengoku-era experiences, he formed connections with Axiu, Tokichiro, and Minamoto no Raikou. He became an “Onmyo Warrior” in practice: combining frontline combat with prepared Onmyoji talismans, while relying on Nine-Tails and White Viper Guardian Spirits for his strongest techniques. 27 37 39 48

In the Far Shore incident, Gu Mo used Possession Fusion and later Yokai Transformation against Chimi Moryo and Bishamonten. His use of the Night Wanderer’s green mask led to a citywide night of coercive “festivities,” after which citizens began worshipping his alter ego as “Broken Throat.” 69 79 80 89 94

His later journeys brought him into worlds with increasingly powerful supernatural systems. He acquired the Shikon Jewel Shard, developed Projection Magic, investigated Kaguya’s legacy, and used Prometheus’ Stone Tablet to begin stealing and transferring divine Authority. 96 101 144 160

Gu Mo ultimately used Immortal Techniques, celestial materials, and a wish-granting method to ascend into a True Person body. This ended the severe burden previously imposed by wielding Authority with a mortal body and gave him genuine control over the Authority of Lies. 191 194

After defeating Tiamat’s forces, he inherited major portions of her legacy, including the Mother of All Beasts Authority. He then established Lunar Orbit City and an Earth–Moon teleportation route while pursuing a plan to connect with the subconscious network of humanity. 206 213

His later activities include creating and refining avatars, working with Kamizaki’s creation abilities, awakening Divine Star Eyes, attaining Legendary Status, entering the Fifth Holy Grail War through Plane Projection, and challenging powers such as the Greater Will. 261 267 291 319 320 413

Appearance

Gu Mo’s appearance changes alongside his growth. His ordinary human appearance becomes increasingly refined through System enhancement, Guardian Spirit influence, Immortal cultivation, and divine bloodline upgrades. 57 168 319

  • Tall, straight posture and steady, powerful movements. 57
  • Defined facial features and bright, sharp eyes. 57
  • A sculpted physique after investing in Strength and Constitution. 57
  • Often appears in white clothing with black hair in later periods. 373 403
  • Can adopt the appearance of a green-robed Daoist through transformed equipment and Illusion Techniques. 168
  • His Nine-Tails aura and charm can make his presence unusually attractive or difficult to ignore. 57 58

Personality

Gu Mo is curious, analytical, and highly adaptable. He constantly examines the System’s mechanics, tests new Skills, compares supernatural systems, and looks for ways to combine powers from different worlds. His understanding of skill slots, avatars, Authorities, and cross-world rules largely comes from deliberate experimentation. 27 101 222 217

Despite his growing power, he retains habits and perspectives shaped by a peaceful modern life. He initially struggles to accept the violence and harsh worldview of the Sengoku period, but repeatedly chooses to train, intervene in crises, and protect people caught in supernatural conflicts. 37 104

He is also strategic and willing to manipulate perceptions when necessary. He maintains personas, misleads dangerous opponents, and uses illusion or charm-based abilities to avoid direct conflict when that is more efficient. 101 117 527

The Night Wanderer mask can sharply distort his behavior. While wearing it, he becomes reckless, theatrical, coercive, and prone to violent outbursts; after dawn, he returns to his usual rational state and regrets the consequences. 89 93

Abilities & Skills

System and Skill Badges

Gu Mo’s growth is mediated by a System that provides attributes, levels, equipment, professions, achievements, Skill Badges, and Dungeon functions.

  • Can allocate earned points into attributes such as Strength, Constitution, Spirit, and Mental. 23 73 144
  • Has ten personal Skill Badge slots. 86
  • Skill slots allow equipped abilities to function even when different world rules would normally suppress them. 222
  • Life Potential activates only after he loses nearly one-third of his Health Bar. 12
  • Later gains access to Profession selection, though he remains committed to the Fangshi profession rather than accepting the experience penalty of changing paths. 319 422

Guardian Spirits and Yokai Transformation

Gu Mo possesses the Nine-Tails and White Viper as Guardian Spirits. He can equip Yokai Soul Cores to a Guardian Spirit, allowing him to access the Yokai’s associated skills indirectly. 26 27

  • Possession Fusion greatly boosts physical attributes and grants Yokai Power, but rapidly drains stamina and Spirit. 69 70
  • Yokai Transformation gives extreme increases to Strength, Agility, and Constitution, turning his body into a durable, pain-resistant combat form. 48
  • High synchronization can push him close to a complete Nine-Tailed Fox transformation, magnifying his physical attacks. 138
  • The Nine-Tails grants fire manipulation, charm, and strong Yokai Power. 26 117
  • The White Viper provides divinity, sword-light attacks, and Living Weapon techniques. 58 79
  • Transformation affects his Guardian Spirits in return; the White Viper can become more hostile and Aragami-like when Gu Mo transforms. 80

Onmyoji Arts and Talismans

Gu Mo studies Onmyoji Magic and combines it with swordsmanship and direct combat.

  • Can prepare talismans by expending stamina and Spirit in advance. 37
  • Documented talismans include Fire Summoning, Purification Binding, Fire Bullet, Barrier, Body Nourishing, and Divination Talismans. 86
  • Uses Divination Talismans to determine direction and location in unfamiliar Dungeon worlds. 104
  • Learned Kendo Stance through Minamoto no Raikou’s training. 37
  • Developed an “Onmyo Warrior” approach that treats magic and martial combat as a single fighting style. 39

Projection Magic

Projection Magic allows Gu Mo to materialize objects and alter his clothing, but its quality depends on his knowledge and understanding of what he is creating.

  • Can transform his attire into more suitable clothing for a setting, such as a samurai-like light armor set. 104
  • Can create and install objects such as mirrors. 108
  • Cannot accurately project complex objects, such as firearms, without possessing the full knowledge, design, and manufacturing process. 103
  • Uses projected weapons in combat, including flaming arrows created as he fires them. 238
  • Avatars cannot use Projection Magic unless the Skill Badge is equipped. 222

Illusion, Charm, and Mental Interference

Gu Mo’s illusion-based powers develop from the Nine-Tails’ charm, Artificial Demonic Eye, the Night Wanderer’s Authority, and his own increasing spiritual power.

  • Artificial Demonic Eye can charm targets into accepting a false interpretation of events. 102
  • Direct eye contact greatly strengthens the Demonic Eye’s effect; when enhanced by Nine-Tails charm and the Shikon Jewel Shard, it can compel targets toward self-destruction. 117
  • His spiritual power eventually allows minor telekinetic interference, such as changing the path of floating paper. 86
  • The Authority of Lies enables him to distort reality and illusion by overwriting truth with accepted cognition. 194 212
  • His Mind Power can expose others’ thoughts without deliberate mind-reading when their mental activity is strongly projected. 440

Immortal Body and Authority

After ascending to a True Person body, Gu Mo gains a qualitatively different life form and can use divine Authority without the former mortal burden. 191 194

  • Self-regeneration and a body whose strength surpasses ordinary material limits. 191
  • Absorbs external magical energy with exceptional efficiency. 191 195
  • Possesses spirit-like traits, including the ability to deploy Reality Marble-derived Bounded Fields as an instinctive ability. 199
  • Can forcibly drain life force from opponents unable to resist him. 200
  • Inherits the Mother of All Beasts Authority from Tiamat through Prometheus’ Stone Tablet. 206
  • His later divine body gives him enormous physical power; he states that his main body can tear apart a planet under normal circumstances. 319 403

Creation, Avatars, and World Travel

Gu Mo can travel between worlds, create avatars, and synchronize information between his main body and those projections. 94 215

  • His avatars can operate separately while sharing information with his true self. 215
  • His avatar technique develops toward multi-core operation and broad cross-world searching. 261
  • Uses creation-related knowledge, alchemy, cloning techniques, magecraft puppets, and Kamizaki’s help to create suitable bodies for projections. 260 268
  • His mastery of Creation grants an instinctive ability to design life forms. 289
  • Established Teleportation Gates linking Earth, the Moon, and Europa. 213 222

Time and Divine Star Eyes

Gu Mo later develops time-oriented powers and inherits further divine traits.

  • Can freeze time and act freely within a stopped environment. 416
  • Awakened the three-form Divine Star Eyes: Scarlet, Azure, and Dark Star Eyes. 291
  • Acquired composite divine Authorities from the Machine God civilization and Greek gods, including lightning-based power comparable to Zeus’s divine functions. 403
