Background / History

Konoha selected Guy for the first joint pursuit force against Uchiha Lie Yang because his taijutsu made him the team’s designated close-range attacker. The plan relied on Kakashi tracking Lie Yang, Hinata Yota identifying the original body, Kurenai disrupting ocular techniques, and Guy applying direct pressure once Lie Yang was restrained. Konoha regarded the Eight Gates as the squad’s final trump card if ordinary tactics failed 17 20.

Before encountering Lie Yang, Guy felt an unprecedented warning from his body. Unlike his usual excitement toward powerful opponents, he felt only escalating danger as the team neared its target; he described it as his body urging him to stop before he had even seen the enemy 22.

During the first encounter, Guy intercepted Lie Yang’s attack on Kakashi with Leaf Hurricane, but Lie Yang used the flat of his blade and precise vibration control to sever the restraints of Guy’s leg weights. The operation ends in failure: Hinata Yota is dead, Kakashi is incapacitated by Mangekyō genjutsu, and Guy retreats while carrying Kakashi despite his own injuries 27 28.

Second Pursuit and Battle with Shisui

Guy returns with Kakashi, Kurenai, and Shisui for a second attempt. Lie Yang’s clone trap damages Guy’s ankle, and subsequent attacks sever his tendon, break his arm, and remove his ability to fight at full speed 32 33 34.
