Although a small accident had occurred at the end of this hunt,
the gains had still been good. After sending the captured goblins back to the yard, Charles shared some meditation insights with the three servants, then began meditating to recover.
From this hunt, Charles had also gained a clear understanding of his own combat strength.
He could easily deal with groups of fifteen goblins or fewer.
He only needed to seize the right opportunity for a sneak attack. Any more than that carried a certain degree of danger.
Under such circumstances, bringing in teammates was not worthwhile either.
Normally, the goblins in the sewers came out in groups of ten or twenty.
Any more, and there would not even be enough food to go around.
One more person meant one more share of the profits.
Once there were more than thirty goblins, even adding another person would not be enough to handle them.
After resting, Charles sent the three goblins away so they would not die in his home.
Once he had recovered, Charles began preparing for the next hunt.
This routine continued for more than a month.
Charles went into the sewers once every three days. He spent the other two days recovering while meditating and training.
This ensured steady progress in both earning Magic Stones and cultivation.
Each hunt brought varying results. Sometimes he could catch five or six suitable goblins; sometimes, only two or three.
There had even been one time when he worked all day and came away with nothing because too many goblins had shown up.
Yet even so, he had earned more than one hundred and eighty Magic Stones during this period.
He spent all those Magic Stones on new spells.
Aside from the Magic Stones, his greatest gain during this time had been the Soul Coins from Wu Duo Duo Mall.
He had accumulated more than four hundred in one go.
With money in hand, Charles had no intention of saving it. While attending lectures, he purchased the cultivation insights of three First-Ring Wizards regarding Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice training.
They were Wizards, after all. Even their insights on Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice training were far superior to the cultivation notes he had previously bought from Wood.
With the cultivation insights of these three Wizards to compare and verify against one another, Charles's meditation speed improved as well.
Combined with the spell training insights he had purchased, Charles's combat strength had been rising in a straight line during this time.
The Zero-Ring spells he had recently purchased were: Greased Ground, Web Bomb, Foxfire Spell, Stunning Spell, and Leech Therapy.
Of these five spells, two were control spells, two were offensive spells, and one was a healing spell.
First was the Zero-Ring spell: Greased Ground.
Once successfully cast, it created a small slick area, roughly three by three in size.
The slickness mainly came from grease, allowing it to combine with other spells.
Zero-Ring spell: Web Bomb.
Once successfully cast, it released a spherical mass of webbing. Upon impact, it bounced open and stuck to everything around it.
After striking an opponent, the area it covered was about the same as Greased Ground.
Charles had tested this webbing himself. Even strength at the knight level could not break free from it in a short time.
It was simply too sticky. Even if it was cut or torn apart, the remaining webs would still have an effect.
Zero-Ring spell: Foxfire Spell.
Once successfully cast, it condensed a ball of cold light and flame that could be used for illumination or long-range attacks.
This flame was icy and sinister. Even when someone was ignited by it, they felt no burning sensation at first, though the damage was real. If one was not careful, one would only realize the flames were offensive after already being burned.
This spell could also be used together with Greased Ground, producing an effect where one plus one equaled three.
Charles did not have many Magic Stones on hand. Every single one had to be spent in the best possible place.
Zero-Ring spell: Stunning Spell.
Once successfully cast, it directly knocked weak enemies unconscious.
This spell could not stun enemies whose mental strength and physical bodies surpassed Charles's, but the targets he wanted to knock out were goblins, so this was basically not a problem.
Now that he had more methods at his disposal, it was better to avoid close combat whenever possible.
For Charles, the effects of Stunning Spell could not have been more suitable.
The final Zero-Ring spell: Leech Therapy.
This was Charles's only healing-type spell.
Once the casting was complete, it summoned a phantom leech to clean wounds, stop bleeding, and drain poison.
It was of little use for immediate physical recovery, but it could minimize the risk of infection.
After all, where had Charles been fighting recently?
In the sewers—and who knew what strange potions and mutated things might be lurking in those sewers?
The goblins did not care for hygiene either. If one of them struck him, it would probably be no less dangerous than being bitten by a Komodo dragon in his previous life.
This was where Leech Therapy showed its worth: sucking away poisoned blood, cleaning wounds, and reducing the risk of infection.
Once he had money in the future, Charles would continue learning other healing spells and strive to diversify his methods further.
He had purchased learning insights for all these spells from Wu Duo Duo Mall, so he picked them up very quickly.
And with these spells, Charles felt that his combat strength had improved considerably as well.
Moreover, his cultivation progress had been steadily improving. His magic power and mental strength were far greater than before, allowing him to cast more spells.
This greatly boosted his confidence. Even when facing more than twenty goblins, he would no longer be left scrambling.
Late at night.
At the entrance to the sewers, Charles led five people inside once more.
His strength had increased, and he was capturing more goblins. The original three servants were no longer enough, so Charles directly expanded the team.
The original three trained the newcomers. Charles did not even need to brainwash them; the other two threw themselves into the work.
Nor was Charles merely dangling an empty promise. Whenever he had time, he still shared meditation insights with these servants.
At least one servant said that he was already close to becoming a Third-Rank Wizard Apprentice.
This was good news for both Charles and the other servants.
His efforts in teaching them had not been wasted.
As they continued deeper into the sewers, Charles had long since grown accustomed to the sensation. Even his sense of smell was nearly adapting to the stench.
He summoned a ball of foxfire, not even needing to light a torch. The foxfire floated at Charles's side, illuminating the surrounding area.
The goblins in these sewers were like respawning mobs. Charles had killed three or four hundred of them this month alone, yet every time he came, he could still easily lure out more goblins.
And besides Charles, other teams hunting goblins operated in the surrounding districts as well.
By that count, nearly thousands or even tens of thousands of goblins died every month.
But considering the goblins' terrifying reproductive power, those casualties did not seem all that significant.
If not for people like Charles capturing experimental subjects, perhaps the underground goblins would have flooded out long ago.
